Dave Lombardo Interview: “Mike Patton introduced me to John Zorn”

Drum Talk interviewed Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Dead Cross) at Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen, Germany while he was touring with Suicidal Tendencies in early 2017. You can watch the entire interview below.
On working with John Zorn: “Mike Patton introduced me to John Zorn and John Zorn, saxophone/lead composer, we performed together and I don’t know, we connected musically on a different level than most musicians that rely on sheet music. We were able to communicate without having any kind of structured music.”
On working with Fantomas: “Fantomas was a band and music that had absolutely no boundaries or any kind of restrictions. Anything was possible and everything was possible. Not only did we have the talent capability… the talent capability of the band was there, but also Patton, he really pushed the musicians in that band as well as myself to be better musicians. By learning that music, I feel I may be a better drummer…and yes, it is artistic because, again, you don’t have any restrictions. With Fantomas, there was no genre.”
