Mark Foster Billboard Interview 2019 – Foster the People “Pumped Up Kicks”

Foster the People:  Had an interesting conversation with Xander Zellner from Billboard. What was meant to be a fifteen minute interview on the song turned into an hour long talk about culture; my take on an artists duty in society, and the idea that the fluidity of our collective consciousness can change the meaning of something over time. Felt good to get some of this off my chest. Thank you Xander for handling this interview with care, and deducing a complex topic into a digestible piece without losing the nuance.

“Pumped Up Kicks”:

It took people a while to let the lyrics get into their bones and I think that once the lyrics got under their skin it was a bit of a slap in the face,” Foster says, “And I think some people were embarrassed that they didn’t realize it in the beginning — that they had been dancing to it.” – READ MORE

Foster the People “Imagination” New Song 2019

PURCHASE / STREAMING OPTIONS

Foster the People: “i think the quality that makes us distinctly human is our ability to live in duality. we comprehend the present external world we’re in, while having an internal dialogue about what it all means. we can be our own best friends. we can be our own mortal enemy.

“we can ski the alps in the peak of summer from under our bed covers at night. we can sail the high seas with Yeats and pick his brain about the afterlife in the holy city of Byzantium. we can fall in love with a stranger that passes us on the street;

“forming a complete history and future with a person we’ve never even spoken to. our internal life is a universe, worthy to be explored and engaged. a dangerous place full of desires, undiscovered and unfulfilled. in our imagination we can escape our reality and create a new one.
