SAXON – “Destiny” (Released June 20, 1988)

Released June 20, 1988:
SAXON – “Destiny”.
Their ninth studio album (10th overall).

It seems that of all their contemporaries from the early‑80s New Wave of British Heavy Metal, only Iron Maiden and Def Leppard managed to really hold their ground.

EMI and Saxon were still trying to “crack” the American market, and their only options were to get the “hair metal” makeover and attempt to be commercial via the singles “Ride Like the Wind” (Christopher Cross cover) and “I Can’t Wait Anymore.”

Sadly, it didn’t work. There were hundreds of U.S. bands filling that position.

The rest of the album feels like we’ve heard it all before.

Unfortunately, “Destiny” failed to improve Saxon’s appeal and would be the band’s last release on a major label.

The album peaked at #46 in the UK, but did not chart in the U.S.
