Johnny Dee is best known for anchoring the classic glam metal band Britny Fox and serving as the longtime drummer for Doro Pesch. A self-taught player who picked up the drums at 12, he first surfaced on the Philadelphia scene with World War III, recording their self-titled debut around 1985 before landing his first major break with British hard rockers Waysted, appearing on their 1986 album Save Your Prayers. When Waysted folded, Dee returned to Philadelphia and joined Britny Fox in 1987, stepping in after the death of original drummer Tony Destra; he went on to record the band’s core catalog, including the gold-certified debut Britny Fox (1988), Boys in Heat (1989), Bite Down Hard (1991) and the 2003 comeback Springhead Motorshark, touring with acts like Poison, Ratt, Alice Cooper and Bon Jovi as the band rode the late-’80s glam wave.
After Britny Fox initially folded in the early ’90s, Dee’s career shifted to Europe when he joined German metal icon Doro Pesch in 1993, a gig that has turned into decades of studio and live work. With Doro he has played on multiple studio albums, from Machine II Machine (1995) and Fight (2002) through Raise Your Fist (2012) and Conqueress – Forever Strong and Proud (2023), as well as live releases like Doro Live and 25 Years in Rock… And Still Going Strong, while also serving at times as tour manager. Along the way he has kept busy with side projects and collaborations, including Mariah, Uncle Edna with Britny Fox vocalist Tommy Paris, work with Blaze Bayley, and various tribute and cover projects, and in 2022 he was announced as the new drummer for melodic hard rock band Tyketto.
