This Day in Duffstory: Duff McKagan Receives His High School Diploma

More than 30 years after leaving Seattle’s Roosevelt High School in the 10th grade, Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan received his high school diploma during the school’s 2012 graduation ceremony.
McKagan marked the moment with a line that was pure Duff: “Finally got my high school diploma today. I did the not-so-popular 48-year plan.”
His return to Roosevelt added another unexpected chapter to a life that had already taken him from Seattle punk roots to global success with Guns N’ Roses, making the ceremony both reflective and full-circle.
McKagan also addressed the graduates, speaking about leaving school early to follow his dream and acknowledging that while his own path took a different direction, the value of finishing what they had started was not lost on him.
