Voivod’s First Show: June 25, 1983

On this day in 1983, Voivod hit the stage for the very first time at Place Nikitoutagan in Jonquière, QC, Canada, kicking off one of the most singular careers in metal with a set that leaned heavy on their early influences.

The setlist was packed with covers from Venom, Tank, Sweet Savage, Motörhead, Raven, Judas Priest, A II Z, and Budgie, plus three key originals that would help define the band’s DNA: “Condemned to the Gallows,” “Blower,” and “Voivod.” That debut show was captured and later released as the Anachronism demo tape, a raw document of the moment Voivod started carving out their own twisted corner of the metal universe.
