Trailer: The Making of Iggy Pop’s ‘Post Pop Depression’, Produced by Josh Homme, Documentary

Watch the trailer for American Valhalla, a documentary detailing the making of Iggy Pop’s 2016 solo album, Post Pop Depression. The album was produced by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and featured contributions from Queens of the Stone Age’s Dean Fertita who recorded guitar and keyboards and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders.
“When he (Iggy Pop) texted me about recording together, I was just like (mind blown),” Homme comments. “You’re in the Stooges. I’m in Queens. And those are heavy things.”
Post Pop Depression was recorded between January 12 and March 9, 2015 at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, California, over the course of two weeks, and another week at Pink Duck Studios in Burbank, California. The album was released on March 18, 2016.
The trailer above includes footage from the studio as well as snippets from a live performance. “Just hearing his voice, I could barely concentrate,” Homme says of Pop. “The idea isn’t to blend, it’s to take your breath away.”
As previously reported, Queens of the Stone Age completed their upcoming album. In late April, Lurssen Mastering in Burbank, California posted the picture below with the caption, ‘Something new brewing. Queens Of The Stone Age’. Soon after that post appeared, Left Front Door Records posted the exact same image on Instagram with the words: “An album just got mixed.”
