Hawkwind: Hawkwind Jigsaws!!

On March 10, 1979, Motörhead released the single “Overkill,” which reached #39 on the UK Singles Chart. To support the release, the band played the track on the BBC TV show Top of the Pops the day before the song made its debut.
Band:
Lemmy Kilmister – Vocals, Bass
“Fast” Eddie Clarke – Guitars
Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor – Drums
Recorded Dec 1978 – January 1979 @ Roundhouse Studios / Sound Development Studios
Produced by Jimmy Miller

Drummer Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Misfits, Mr. Bungle):
Motörhead was the first time I heard double bass done at that pattern. I had heard of other double bass drummers, but I don’t think they did anything like that, at that tempo and that beat.”
Drummer Lars Ulrich (Metallica):
Taylor introduced me to that double bass type of thing. When I first heard ‘Overkill’ in early 1979, that was what blew my head off.”
The song was covered by the thrash band Overkill, who took their name from the Motörhead album.
On September 14, 2011, members of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax, collectively known as “the big four” of thrash metal, covered the song live at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
WHO REQUESTED THE REESE’S PEANUT BUTTER CUPS?
Phil Campbell: Myself of course. Couldn’t get them in UK for years until I campaigned on 3 or 4 album sleeves.

Andy Parker: A couple of days ago I received the sad news that my friend, guitarist Larry Wallis had died at the age of 70. Larry played with UFO in the early seventies, and although his tenure was brief, he left a lasting impression on me. We had lost touch over the years, but when Cleopatra records released the box set “Live Sightings” in 2015 I was fortunate enough to re-connect with him. After listening to the Early Flight vinyl album included in the box set and recorded at the legendary Marquee Club in Wardour street, I was reminded of just what a great guitarist he was. Always ready with a snappy comeback, a much younger Andy Parker once asked him at rehearsals why he was taking so long over a song part, to which he replied, “You might be rehearsing man, but I am creating”. Classic Larry, he will be greatly missed. RIP buddy.

A 40th anniversary celebration of the loudest, dirtiest, bastard rock ‘n’ roll of 1979 – the year Motörhead released the seminal Overkill and Bomber albums – the featured single edit was previously only available as the A side of the original 1979, 7″ single, “Overkill.” It will be released digitally for the first time ever on March 8, 2019, to coincide with its original release date.

This lavish double picture disc being released for record store day 2019 is housed in a gatefold sleeve, which features iconic photos of the band, shot by Paul Slattery on the 8th February 1979 in front of a huge Motörhead Snaggletooth mural on the Harrow Road in Paddington, London.

Brian Vollmer: “This is the tour pass from our 1984 tour of Europe. On the last date Lemmy & the Motörhead boys hid King Diamond’s sacred bones and pasted porno shots of the guitar player’s girlfriend to the stage floor by his foot pedals. Aw…memories!”

In 1984, Mercyful Fate went into the studio to record their legendary album ‘Don’t Break the Oath,’ released on September 7, 1984. Soon after, the group started a two-month US Tour, which took them across the US several times, including sharing the stage with Motorhead and Exciter for the last part of the tour. The shows had created a brush fire within the metal community, and Mercyful Fate was now getting a lot of recognition. The year of 1984 ended with a 5-day tour of Germany with Motorhead, Girlschool, Helix and Talon.
