Rita Haney (dimebagzhag): Well here we are on D-Day.. 15 yrs… has it really been that much time.. I sure miss those eyes.. and you telling me to come get in my favorite place, then tap the space between your neck and shoulder.. and you knew it really was my favorite place ♥️ being strapped up inside since yesterday has given me lots of time to remember so many different moments.. the only urge today I felt the need to check the time.. then realized.. this was about when I was backing out of the garage in the Rock Box and got the call from Vinnie.. strange how things can still be so vivid after all this time.. I think about how I couldn’t stay mad at you cause you would make me laugh.. and even now when I tear up.. you make something funny pop in my head.. so I suck it up and swallow hard.. which has been a little difficult today since I’m wrestling with this sore throat and cruddy chest thing.. not the best time to be stuck on the couch.. but Cat Dracula has been a pretty good nurse prescribing cuddles and kisses all day?? This is usually the kinda shit I write in my journals.. apologies for rattling on.. The point of this post is to Thank you.. Thank You everyone for loving him and remembering him.. also thank you for all the kind thoughts and words today that I have received on all social platforms, by text, VM, etc. you guys remind me why you live your best life!!! ⚡️I still have the best life.. Thank you Darrell⚡️♥️

DESCRIPTION:
Terry talks about how he found out about Dimebag Darrell’s death, the ‘Dean from Hell,’ Buddy Blaze and Vivian Campbell’s blue polka dot Kramer Nightswan guitar.
You can listen to the entire interview at this location.
________________________________________________________________________

On how he found out about Dimebag Darrell’s death:
Terry Glaze: I got a call – early in the morning – from my friend, Buddy Blaze. Buddy Blaze is the one who was responsible for that ‘Dean from Hell,’ the blue lightning bolt. Back in the old days, he got the guitar from Darrell….Darrell had won the guitar in a guitar competition…but Buddy got it….Darrell wanted some money to buy his Firebird. So Buddy took the guitar and put a Floyd (Rose) on it, just totally customed-out the guitar, and then ended up giving it back to Darrell. Later, Buddy is the one that did that polka dot blue Kramer Nightswan guitar that Vivian Campbell played in that Whitesnake video. Buddy is just an amazing guitar player, who we’ve been friends with since he was a teenager….one of my best friends. But when Darrell died, Buddy was the one that called me and woke me up and said, ‘hey, turn on your whatever.’

Terry Glaze: And then the funeral happened, I don’t know how many days afterward. Darrell’s buried in the same cemetery where my grandmother and grandfather are buried and the same cemetery where my wife’s father is buried. So I was just at that cemetery Christmas, when I was back in Texas for the holidays. But we go to the funeral, me, Buddy and Tommy Bradford and I think that basically we were the only people who weren’t wasted. Everyone was wasted, so Darrell would have loved it. Then that night there was like a big party at the Arlington Convention Center and, you know, all these rock stars are there, everybody was trashed, you know? Eddie Van Halen was there, freakin’ Zakk (Wylde) was there, the guys in Alice in Chains were there. Just all of these rock stars. But there was Darrell’s body in a KISS Casket, shorts and flip flops….and he just look beautiful. It wasn’t tragic like a car crash or anything. He looked like he was just asleep. And it was just so surreal. You just couldn’t believe it until I went back, I think the next day, and I saw the dirt. His body was in the ground….in the dirt…..that kind of finality was what made it real to me. I just didn’t know how to respond or react to it.

“It was a very big night at the Agora as Buddy, Q102, and Arnold & Morgan presented the second consecutive “Real Guitar” competition. The winner this time was Darrell Abbott of Arlington. Darrell, age 14, was the favorite of the crowd and the judges as he walked off with first prize, a stunning, bright red, Dean ML guitar.”

Dean Zelinsky, founder of Dean Guitars, was one of the judges. Abbott’s mother accompanied him to the club because he was not old enough to enter on his own.

According to TMZ, Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul left his best friend a sizable portion of his estate.
TMZ obtained a copy of Vinnie’s will which outlines exactly how his estate should be divided following his sudden death in June — and it’s Vinnie’s best friend, Charles Jones, who’s walking away with 38%.
Vinnie’s girlfriend, Chelsey Yeager, isn’t far behind with 37% of his estate. The rest is split between his tour manager (10%), drum tech (5%), producer (5%) and friend (5%).
Vinnie also gave his interest in his brother and Pantera co-founder Dimebag Darrell’s estate to Darrell’s girlfriend, Rita Haney.
As previously reported, Vinnie Paul was found dead in his Las Vegas home on June 22nd. He was 54 years old.
Brian Head Welch:
“LETTER TO DIMEBAG
“It was 2005. I was fresh off of drugs, freshly awakened spiritually and feeling positive, yet I was truly alone for the first time in my adult life, away from my best friends I had grown up with and taken Korn to the top of the music world with. What an exhaustive whirlwind of emotions. I can’t even tell you.
“But there was also a deep cloud of sadness from a completely different source that was weighing heavily on my soul. Dimebag Darrel from Pantera had been murdered on stage in front of his brother, his other bandmates, his friends in the road crew and a club full of devoted fans. Only a few weeks had gone by and I just couldn’t shake the shock, confusion and sadness of how that could’ve happened. With Dime’s murder, my leaving Korn and my new spiritual life… I was dealing with a tornado of confused emotions to say the least.
“Only a few weeks after the murder, I remember sitting in my studio/office at home, just days after leaving Korn. I couldn’t stop thinking about Dime. So I picked up my guitar and wrote a piece of music in a style I had never written before. It all came so naturally and quickly. It was as if the pain over Dime’s tragedy came from deep down in my soul, out of my heart, through my veins, into my hands, out of my fingers, and poured into this little piece of music called LETTER TO DIMEBAG. I felt a release after I finished it. It was a surreal experience in my life and every time I listen to it I feel the same emotions I felt that very day I wrote it; like my soul crying out over the injustice done to Dime, having to let him go, and witnessing a part of Dime’s closest family and friends die right along with him—especially his brother Vinnie. Vinnie was never the same after that.
“After the recent and sudden passing of Vinnie Paul, I wanted to post this again as they have both been on my mind and heart so much lately. So I dedicate this track to Dimebag Darrel and Vinnie Paul.
“RIP my brothers”
