Corrosion of Conformity Chart Positions for ‘No Cross No Crown’ + “The Luddite” – Billboard US/UK

The latest chart positions for Corrosion of Conformity’s brand new album, No Cross No Crown, have been revealed. Their latest effort was released on January 12th via Nuclear Blast Entertainment and debuted at #67 in the United States on the Billboard Top 200. The band also landed at #12 on Billboard’s Top Current Albums, and #3 on the Top Hard Music Albums chart, making it the highest charting album of the group’s career.  In the United Kingdom, the album debuted at #87 on the Official Charts.

“To all the free thinkers and beer drinkers, we couldn’t do this without you,” the band said in a statement. “Thanks so much for your undying support and loyalty all these years. Up the hammers! See you on the horizon. Love and respect – CORROSION OF CONFORMITY.”

The official video for their new song, “The Luddite,” has been embedded below.

Recorded in North Carolina with Grammy-nominated producer John Custer, the band cut the album in about forty days over the course of a year. “We took our time and didn’t put any pressure on ourselves,” says frontman/guitarist Pepper Keenan. “I’d go up from New Orleans and we’d do four or five days at a time, just hacking away at it. It was fun because we did it like a demo, but in a studio. We were writing and putting it on tape at the same time. We took what parts we thought were great from the old days and weren’t scared to go backwards. It kinda wrote itself that way.”

The band is currently on tour with Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society.  A list of dates and ticket info can be found on our previous post at this location.

Corrosion of Conformity: New Album ‘No Cross No Crown’ + New Song “Cast The First Stone”

Corrosion of Conformity will release a brand new album called No Cross No Crown on January 12, 2018 via Nuclear Blast Records. The first single, “Cast The First Stone,” has been embedded below.

PRE-ORDER

Recording in North Carolina with Grammy-nominated producer John Custer, the band cut the album in about forty days over the course of a year.

The album’s iconic title comes from a recent tour stop in England. “We were playing this old church from like the 1500s that had been turned into a performing arts center,” Keenan recalls. “The dressing room had stained glass windows and one of them showed this poor fella being persecuted. Underneath it said, ‘No cross no crown.’ So I just took that idea. We’re not trying to be on a soapbox, but we used it as a catalyst to write songs around.”

Which is to say that No Cross No Crown has a lot less to do with politics or religion than its title implies. “I think everyone needs to get away from that mindset in general,” Keenan offers. “It just seems to be a mess out there nowadays. We need to get back to being humans and taking care of each other and simple things like that. For us, the terminology ‘No cross no crown’ is a theme. It’s mentioned in like three songs throughout the album. We just weaved it through as we went.”

Superchunk Covers Corrosion of Conformity’s “Mad World” – Listen

Superchunk will release a new 7-inch with “Break the Glass” b/w “Mad World” on Friday, October 20th.  Featuring backing vocals by Sabrina Ellis of A Giant Dog, the b-side, “Mad World,” is a cover of a Corrosion of Conformity song from 1985’s Animosity.  The track has been embedded below.

Both songs are also available on your favorite streaming sites and wherever digital music is sold.

Formed in 1989 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Superchunk is Mac McCaughan (guitar, vocals), Jim Wilbur (guitar, backing vocals), Jon Wurster (drums, backing vocals), and Laura Ballance (bass, backing vocals). Since releasing their first 7-inch in 1989, Superchunk has run the gamut of milestone albums: early punk rock stompers, polished mid-career masterpieces, and lush, adventurous curveballs.

Superchunk frontman Mac McCaughan:

“Break the Glass”
“…is a song about realizing you are in an emergency situation and trying to not lose your shit so you can respond to the ongoing disaster in a productive way. Trying to figure out why so many people around you are acting like nothing is wrong and wondering if maybe you’re the one that’s crazy…but you know you’re not. We are lucky to have Sabrina Ellis (A Giant Dog) singing on this track because no one conveys personal (or political) urgency more effectively than Sabrina.”

 “Mad World”
“….is a song by NC hardcore legends Corrosion of Conformity, one of the first punk bands I saw, and unfortunately the lyrics are still appropriate today.”

All proceeds will benefit the Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit that uses litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy to fight hate and bigotry and to seek justice for the most vulnerable members of our society.

Superchunk covers “Mad World” by Corrosion of Conformity

Superchunk on tour:
Oct 27 Charlotte, NC – Neighborhood Theatre
Oct 28 Birmingham, AL – Seasick Records
Oct 29 Gainesville, FL – The Fest 16

Former Corrosion of Conformity Vocalist Eric Eycke Dies

Former Corrosion of Conformity vocalist Eric Eycke has passed away. Eycke fronted the band on their 1984 debut album Eye for an Eye.

Corrosion of Conformity Statement:

We are sad to learn of the passing of one time COC vocalist Eric Eycke, who’s broad musical knowledge shaped the band’s early identity and who’s energy is evident on our first hardcore era album “Eye for an Eye”. This simply does not seem real. We traveled far and wide in a shitty van, blowing up stages together, trying to live up to the likes of The Bad Brains and Black Flag. RIP”

Yesterday the band Red Earth posted the following message:

We just heard the terrible news that Corrosion Of Conformity’s singer Eric Eycke is in the hospital. Eric sang on C.O.C.’s incredible first LP Eye For An Eye. Without C.O.C. there would be no Red Death, period. Wishing him and his family the best!
