Kurt Cobain Sweater Fetches $137k at Auction

An ugly green sweater worn by iconic Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain was sold at auction over the weekend for $137,000. The cardigan was worn by the troubled songwriter during the taping of the band’s 1994 performance that was filmed for MTV’s “Unplugged” program. Discolored and scarred with a burn hole, the sweater was auctioned off by Julien’s Live, whose staff opened the bidding at $20,000 for the sweater and only expected about $60,000 for it. Another piece of memorabilia, a lock of Cobain’s hair was scheduled to be auctioned, but was pulled with no explanation offered. The tuft of hair was reportedly given by Courtney Love to be included in a doll she was having made for the couple’s daughter Frances. The doll was created, and there was a small bit of hair leftover.
