CBS Mornings:Billy Idol had an “almost immediate” connection with guitarist Steve Stevens — and once Idol saw him on the guitar, he knew they could make music together: “I can go there with this guy.”
Billy Idol is currently promoting his brand new documentary, Billy Idol Should Be Dead, a feature‑length film directed by Jonas Åkerlund that traces his journey from London punk upstart to MTV‑era rock icon and survivor. The documentary mixes never‑before‑seen archival footage with fresh interviews from Idol, his family, and longtime collaborators like guitarist Steve Stevens, digging into his rise with Generation X, solo hits such as “White Wedding” and “Rebel Yell,” and the drug abuse and 1990 motorcycle crash that nearly killed him. After premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival and playing select theaters, the film is now streaming on Hulu, where it arrives alongside his recent album *Dream Into It* and a new Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination, underscoring how strong his legacy still is almost five decades into his career.
