Calexico “The Black Light” Video

“One of my favorite music videos we did was for “The Black Light.” Working together with director/ cinematographer John Pirozzi we filmed some performances at a SXSW showcase and a hotel room in Austin TX on 16mm. But the majority of footage came from Pirozzi’s travels to India using an 8mm that were later projected onto rocks in Joshua Tree and filmed again on 16mm. There’s a lot of beautiful layers and imagery including two characters who weave in and out of the video played by Jimmy Dava and Xan Cassavetes. The mood on film relates really well with the vibe of the music.”

“The Black Light” was the title track to Calexico’s second studio album, released in 1998.
