W.A.S.P. Throws Meat @ the Crowd for the 1st Time – This Week in History – 1982

RIP Magazine: This week in 1982, Blackie Lawless became one of the undisputed kings of Shock Rock when he decided to unleash a new stage gimmick. Inspired by an experimental form of theater from the ’60s called “psychodrama,” Blackie decided to get everyone’s attention by hurling raw meat into the audience. The show was held at the Troubadour (a relatively small venue in Hollywood with a maximum capacity of 500), so needless to say, the crowd was completely covered with WASP’s makeshift version of steak tartare! Even though it was only the band’s second-ever performance, it made a profound impression on the burgeoning glam metal scene. We’ve never encountered anyone who was actually there, but if you happen to be one of the lucky few, we’d love to hear about it!
