Thomas Dolby to Speak at Escape Velocity Sci-Fi Convention on Saturday

On Saturday, 80s pop icon/Professor of the Arts at Johns Hopkins University Thomas Dolby will be speaking at the Escape Velocity sci-fi convention in Washington DC at 5:30PM. More info at this location.

Dolby will talk about creativity, making a startling claim: he believes that rapid advances in technology and communications do not always lead to a parallel increase in human innovation. Personal excellence comes from working within a set of limitations, forcing us to shatter our own boundaries. So often the best ideas are born from a scarcity of resources.

Escape Velocity is a micro futuristic world’s fair to promote STEAM education within the context of science fiction using the fun of comic cons and fascination of science and engineering festivals. Escape Velocity seeks to make a measurable positive impact to boost informal learning on the more conceptually challenging academic areas.

September 1 – 3, 2017: Escape Velocity at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, DC.
