Poison’s Rikki Rockett Speaks the Truth: “Social media is the new propaganda machine” – 2022

Rikki Rockett:

I don’t like talking politics, but it’s all the rage these days I suppose!

When I was growing up, my mom’s side of the family were republicans and my dad’s side were Democrats. We all shared holidays, birthdays and events. Did they argue? Sure, they did. What East coast family doesn’t? But, at the end of the day there was a level of respect that we have lost today. The pot shots today are insane! Back then, the most divisive thing was probably Rock vs Disco! Lol! Now, people want a civil war if they don’t get their way. Maybe Devo was right about the future… Ju DeEvolution? Don’t get me wrong, it can be healthy to be spirited about your beliefs. However, I now see people adopting beliefs simply based on the party they have chosen.

I have gone from Republican to Libertarian to Independent in just a few short years. I care about policies, not parties.

The current situation is insane, and I blame social media. Social media has helped to create a culture war. At the heart of what people think is political is more a culture jam. Social media is the new propaganda machine.

I personally don’t care if someone in Iowa is out back shooting bottles and cans with their AR any more than I care if some person in Chicago decides to identify as a different sex. Who gives a crap?! It’s a problem when it’s weaponized and used to hurt someone. That’s when I think we as people should care.

I hear both sides lash out statistics to support whatever thing they are trying to get across and I get that, but remember that figures don’t lie, but liars’ figure! Let me say that again for the people in the back… Figures don’t lie, but liars’ figure!

All this election stuff has me thinking… Do we have a Democracy anymore?

Paul Stanley on Russia/Ukraine War: “We are watching in real-time as families are decimated” – 2022

Paul Stanley: While we are living our everyday blessed lives, the people of Ukraine are fighting for theirs against overwhelming odds. We are watching in real-time as families are decimated and a country is battered. There’s a dark cloud over us all who are powerless today to help. I will pray.

ChiefNatali: Thank you very much for these words! I am Ukrainian, but Russian blood flows in me too, and this makes my soul incredibly sore. UKRAINE alone is resisting the authorities, who do not spare either the Russians or the Ukrainian people! I ASK EVERYONE TO PRAY FOR UKRAINE! СПАСИБО🙏 I am grateful to Mr. Stanley for this music, because it gave me strength when I had cancer and now, when my soul hurts. Everything that happens is HORRIBLE. I was in tears all day yesterday And also a HUGE THANK YOU for the words of support to UKRAINE She really needs our prayers.

Peter Gabriel on Russia/Ukraine War: “This invasion is one man’s barbaric decision” – 2022

Peter Gabriel: Very shocked to see so many Ukrainians being killed, a totally unnecessary war being deliberately started in Europe. This invasion is one man’s barbaric decision. This action is a war crime, and whatever else happens, he should never be allowed to leave Russian soil again.

Virgin Records Founder Richard Branson on Russia/Ukraine Tension: “Never in recent years has there been a greater risk of an all-out war” – 2022

Richard Branson: Here’s my thoughts on why the world must support Ukraine, which voluntarily gave up its nuclear weapons in return for Russia “respecting the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine”.

Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine and violation of the Budapest Memorandum is a threat to the rule of law that humanity hasn’t seen since the dark days that led to World War II.

But never in recent years has there been a greater risk of an all-out war on European soil – a war that, like so many before it, does not serve a just or legitimate objective. (It’s hard for any of us to hide our exasperation at this point. In 2022, what on earth is one country doing amassing tanks at another country’s borders?)

This situation is not just bad news for Ukraine in this very moment of acute crisis; it is bad news for every nation, present, and future, seeking to protect its sovereignty.

The world must support Ukraine. We must not abandon a country that voluntarily gave up its nuclear weapons in return for peace, and is now on the verge of being invaded by the very country that persuaded it to do so.

Peter Gabriel Pays Tribute to Kofi Annan, “Today we have suffered a great loss”

Peter Gabriel penned the following tribute to Kofi Annan, the first black African to lead the United Nations, who died at the age of 80.

Peter Gabriel:

“Today we have suffered a great loss – Kofi Annan, Seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations and our much-loved chair of the Elders.

“All those of us who work with the Elders are in shock. We have lost not just a great and inspiring leader but a good friend and one of the great peacemakers of our time, rightfully recognised by a Nobel prize.

“He believed in the power of quiet diplomacy and in the essential right of all to peace – and that all disputes in the end have to be settled around a table, so the sooner the serious talk begins, the sooner you can put an end to the suffering.

“He adopted many causes, but always championed human rights, including access to healthcare, education and opportunity. He was one of the first leaders to realise that the trickle of refugees and migrants would turn into a flood of desperate people, with thousands of completely avoidable deaths, prison-like refugee camps, along with unwanted immigration that would fan the flames of populist racist politics.

“Occasionally he was criticised for caution, but it was so obvious, the more you got to know him, that it was his underlying passion for peace, justice and his basic compassion that determined all his actions.

“Kofi was a devoted family man and it was always a pleasure to see him and Nane together, their love and respect for each other a lesson in itself.

“After retirement, he undertook a work schedule that would have been punishing for someone half his age, and when Richard Branson and I joined him at his 80th birthday party earlier this year, he was as full of plans, as ever, of what we could all do to improve life for those least well off all over the world.

“It was an honour to get to know this extraordinary man and to learn what a warm and kind person he really was, whose gentle nature and humour, along with a very infectious laugh, could illuminate as much as it could melt away tensions.
The world seems a lot emptier without him.”

Britt Daniel: “I’m looking forward to playing a few songs at two town halls that Beto O’Rourke is holding in Central Texas next week — first in my hometown Temple on Thursday and then San Antonio on Friday. This’ll be the first time I’ve played in Temple since my last days of high school when me and a few friends played on the front steps of Temple High. I hope you can make it out to hear Beto speak — he’s got great ideas and he’s running a brilliant campaign free of consultants and PAC money. I believe in what Beto’s saying and I support his true Texan values.”

San Antonio Town Hall with Beto O’Rourke

The Rock Box. 1223 E Houston St San Antonio TX 78205

About Beto O’Rourke:
Beto O’Rourke is a fourth-generation Texan, born and raised in El Paso. After graduating from Columbia University, Beto worked in New York for a few years before deciding to move back to his hometown and start a small technology company. El Paso wasn’t the most likely place to start a company like this, but thanks to the work of some really talented El Pasoans, the company was a success. Over the years Stanton Street hired dozens of people in high skill, high-wage jobs that one might not expect to see in a border community.

Outside of work, Beto became deeply involved in the civic, business and community efforts in El Paso. He ran for El Paso City Council in 2005 and served for two terms before running for U.S. Congress in 2012, taking on an eight-term incumbent and winning. He knocked on thousands of doors and had real conversations, face-to-face, with the voters in El Paso.

In Congress, Beto serves on the House Committees for Armed Services and Veterans Affairs. He has made it a priority to work across the aisle to secure bipartisan support for his legislation, because Beto knows our country is at its best when we can put party aside to work together, build consensus and find common ground. Dan Rather, “President Trump is back sowing the seeds of division”

Full statement from Dan Rather:

On cue, in the wake of the stunning defeat of his health care initiative, President Trump is back sowing the seeds of division to appeal to his rabid base.

In a speech in front of law enforcement, he condoned police brutality. This is outrageous of course. But expect much more like it. The more isolated Mr. Trump gets, the more he is going to try to hold on to his political power by stirring up the seeds of intolerance. He will blame the “other” – no matter if that is transgender soldiers or past presidents at a Boy Scout rally. Both of those recent events backfired against Mr. Trump. The vast majority of the American public is not as hateful or spiteful as the president. The fissures in the GOP are cracking. They bought into Mr. Trump with the hopes of legislative victories. Now they see a self-described dealmaker dealing only in mounting losses and toxic rhetoric that riles up a few but turns off many more.

Playing up law and order as a culture war is a longtime tactic. But I don’t think it will play this time. Most people understand that we need police. Most police are good, decent, brave public servants. And the best police officers will tell you that the kind of policing that Mr. Trump is advocating is not only unconstitutional it is downright counterproductive. Most people are also horrified by police brutality. We need a lot of work on this issue. There is a lot of understandable tension between the police in many places and the people they are supposed to serve. There are longstanding racial histories at play. But I think we can overcome this. If we work together.

The role of a president should be about building unity. Those who are most powerful and most successful are the ones who do this. Only six months into office, Mr. Trump’s trajectory seems to be rapidly heading in the opposite direction.
