Steve Vai to Auction Items from His Life & Career via Julien’s Auctions – 2022

Steve Vai:

Hey Folks, I was approached by the good people at Julien’s Auctions to hold an auction on a handful of items from my life and career. After 44 years of being a professional, I have gathered so much “stuff” that it feels right at this time to lighten the load. I did a comprehensive review of my collected materials and decided to offer up a good handful of items that some others might find interest in acquiring. There are 40 guitars on the block, a large amount of stage worn clothes from over the years & tons of notebooks I kept while working on various projects. I even found the art I drew up of my tattoo when I was 12.

Formed in 1967, Fleetwood Mac was born out of the British blues revival movement, led by guitarist/singer Peter Green, originally from the legendary John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, which included other distinguished British rockers of the 60s and 70s, such as Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor among them, and drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, whose surnames would inspire the band’s name.

Making their debut as Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac at the British Jazz and Blues Festival in 1967, Green, Fleetwood, McVie, and Jeremy Spencer landed their first Top Five hit on the UK Albums Chart in 1968 with their self-titled debut album and charted with their singles “Black Magic Woman” (later covered by Carlos Santana), “Need Your Love So Bad” and their first #1 hit on the UK charts “Albatross,” from their album The Pious Bird of Good Omen. During this time and throughout the early 1970s, the group’s roster of musicians would shift and sound would evolve towards mainstream rock, with the departure of founding front man Peter Green, and his replacement of Chicken Shack keyboardist and vocalist, Christine Perfect, who would marry Mac bassist John McVie and join the band officially for their fifth studio album, Future Games in 1971.

After the departure of founding member Jeremy Spencer and many other personnel changes, the group led by co-founder Mick Fleetwood and the McVie’s moved to California in 1974 to put down roots and develop a new sound. In 1975, the band was introduced to the folk-rock album Buckingham Nicks consisting of guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks. The duo was invited by Fleetwood to join the band and complete the legendary five-person, three-songwriter line-up most known today as the British-American pop-rock band, Fleetwood Mac, who would captivate audiences all over the world and shatter sales records for decades to come.

“Julien’s Auctions is honored to offer this exceptional collection of music history coming directly from the legendary three members of one of the most influential and rock and roll bands of all time, Fleetwood Mac,” said Martin Nolan, Executive Director and CFO of Julien’s Auctions. “These pieces from their storied five-decade career represent the mystique and magic of Christine McVie, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood, whose renowned musicianship, songwriting, vocal harmonies and camaraderie, have given the world a lifetime of illustrious performances and some of the most beloved and best-selling music ever recorded. We are also pleased to announce that a portion of the auction proceeds will benefit MusiCares, who honored Fleetwood Mac in 2018, as the organization’s Person of the Year, to support the charity’s work providing critical services to underserved members of the music community.”

Backstage Auctions, Inc. is honored to present The Jon & Marsha Zazula Private Collection memorabilia auction. The Zazulas, who are inducted in the Hall of Heavy Metal History, founded Megaforce Records and cemented their position as the de-facto music label in America for heavy metal. From their humble beginnings at the Indoor Market along Route 18 in East Brunswick, New Jersey to their global recognition, awards and various inductions, the “Z’s” were trailblazers in the metal arena. This auction is a celebration of the life and careers of Jon and Marsha Zazula.

Lauded with accolades, the Zazulas left the world with an indelible imprint of fierce independence and the introduction of genre-defining music. They believed in a little band from San Francisco by the name of Metallica and helped them become the biggest Heavy-Metal band in the world.

They opened the doors for Thrash-Metal and delivered Anthrax, Overkill, Anvil, and Testament. They introduced the American market to the New Wave of British Heavy-Metal by means of Venom and Raven. And if that wasn’t monumental enough, they established a flourishing record company – Megaforce Worldwide – and a strong management operation – Crazed Management.

The Zazulas were at the forefront of crossover genres, blending metal with industrial sounds (Ministry), funk (King’s X / Mind Funk), punk (M.O.D. / S.O.D.) and grunge (Nudeswirl). They worked with established artists on the next chapter in their careers, such as Ace Frehley and Blue Cheer, ventured out with up-and-coming talent such as Warren Haynes and Bif Naked. Through it all, they remained “The Z’s”, passionate, dedicated, loyal and above all, approachable.

The Zazula estate has made available a selection of mementos from the private collection of Jon and Marsha. Included are rare photos, concert posters and handbills, promotional items, t-shirts and jackets, record awards, backstage passes and personal mementos from the likes of Metallica, Anthrax, Ace Frehley, Venom, Raven, Ministry, Anvil and more. Further are collectibles from Jon and Marsha’s famous record store “Rockn’ Roll Heaven”, Megaforce Records and even the Old Bridge Militia. Being kids from the sixties, the auction also features Grateful Dead memorabilia and vintage concert posters, as well as an impressive collection from the animated dark fantasy musical “Nightmare Before Christmas”.

Among the many highlights are the following “not to be missed” pieces of music history; the original Anthrax ‘Not Man’ head, early-day Metallica concert tickets and flyers, the key to Metallica’s stolen truck (!), Mercyful Fate’s Melissa master reels, Jonny Z’s bass used to record Ministry’s “Psalm 69” album, original Nudeswirl album cover painting, metal sculptures of Jack Skellington and Sally Seamstress, and a selection of guitars and amps owned and used by Jon Zazula.

Ace Frehley’s Original Hand-Drawn KISS Logo from 1973 Up for Auction – 2022

Gotta Have Rock and Roll:

KISS Logo Original Artwork 1973 Hand-Drawn and Designed by Ace Frehley with COA Signed by Ace Frehley — For years now, we have all heard the story of the creation of the KISS band name and KISS logo — Paul Stanley thought of the name, Ace designed the logo, and then Paul refined the logo — But from the Paul and Gene perspective, we were never shown what the original version of the logo looked like — It’s clear now, the reason it was never shown to us, was because Gene and Paul didn’t have it to show anyone; the artwork was buried within Ace’s personal collection. Ace unveiled the original logo artwork for the first time in 2011 within the middle interior color page section of Ace’s No Regrets Book and discussed its creation on page 77 of his book.

1978 Donruss “KISS” Sealed Factory Case with 16 Untouched Boxes – AUCTION – Heritage Auctions – 2022

Bob Nash: A 1978 Donruss “KISS” Sealed Factory Case with 16 Untouched Boxes is up for auction and is expected to sell for $40,000.00! The current bid is $16,000.00!

PLACE BID

1978 Donruss “Kiss” Sealed Factory Case with 16 Untouched Boxes! “You wanted the best… you got the best. The hottest band in the world… KISS!!!” For years, that announcement opened every KISS concert which would bring the Kiss Army to a foot-stomping frenzy. The music, the make-up, the fire breathing, the smoking guitars, movies, television shows, a comic book that used their actual blood… it all epitomized what the 1970s were all about and we loved it. It was a golden era for teenagers looking to rock and roll all night and party every day. And admit it, annoying your mom and dad was a lot of fun too.

Donruss produced two different sets of 66-cards, all packaged with that pink gum that was covered in flour which kept it from sticking to the cards but seem to spread faster than the common cold. Offered is a rare and still factory-sealed case that is designed to house 16 of the wax boxes. Each wax box has 36 packs. Can you imagine being the first KISS fan to have your own KISS case-break party and open up almost 600 individual packs! The outer box has wear and two areas of surface loss but it is 100% factory sealed with contents yet to be touched by human hands after 40+ years! Guide Value or Estimate: $40,000 – up.
