Steve Vai’s Hydra Takes Center Stage on SatchVai Tour

During the recent SatchVai tour, Steve Vai brought his wild multi‑neck creation, the Hydra, out on the road for a live performance of “Teeth of the Hydra.” The outrageous three‑neck instrument, developed with Ibanez, combines a 12‑string, a 7‑string, a bass neck, and built‑in harp strings into a single steampunk‑styled monster.

The track originally appeared as the opening cut on Vai’s 2022 album Inviolate, the same record that features the Hydra on its cover. Now, “Teeth of the Hydra” has become a centerpiece of Vai’s live show, giving fans a chance to see — and hear — the full power of the custom instrument in person.
