Capitol Records Signs W.A.S.P. w/ Randy Piper, Chris Holmes & Blackie Lawless

W.A.S.P. emerged from the early‑1980s Los Angeles metal scene with such a notorious live reputation that major labels quickly began circling, and by 1984 Blackie Lawless and company had landed a deal with Capitol Records. The band released their self‑titled debut album on August 17, 1984. It went on to be certified gold by the RIAA and helped turn W.A.S.P. into one of the decade’s most infamous heavy‑metal acts.
