QUEENSRŸCHE Announce 2023 Digital Noise Alliance Tour!
Celebrating the release of their sixteenth studio album, ‘Digital Noise Alliance’, QUEENSRŸCHE have announced the 2023 Digital Noise Alliance Tour with special guests Marty Friedman and Trauma – see dates below:

Guitar World: Dave Mustaine reflects on Marty Friedman’s Megadeth departure: “What happened to Marty was definitely not okay.” You can read the entire article @ this location.
An excerpt from the interview can be found below.

EXCERPT:
Dave Mustaine:
“I’ve always believed we should give the guitar player an opportunity to do a solo that he feels is right for the song. If someone plays something that doesn’t work for the part, then I may make some suggestions. If it’s still not happening, I might say, ‘Okay, this is what I want you to play here.’
“If a lead totally doesn’t work then I’m going to do the part myself. That’s what happened [on] Breadline. And Marty Friedman quit over the solo in Breadline.”
Mustaine explains that Friedman had written and recorded a solo for Breadline in the studio, but Megadeth management wanted the track to be a single, and thought his solo wasn’t right for the song.
“I said [to management], ‘Well, you have three choices. Either you mute the solo completely, have Marty come back and redo it, or I do it.’ And then I said, ‘If I do it, you’d better tell him.’ Well, I redid it, and nobody told Marty.
“So we’re in there listening to the finished album and the solo comes on. It’s my solo, not Marty’s… I looked at him as tears ran down his face and I knew right away that nobody had told him. I knew that was probably going to be the end of Marty Friedman.”
“Our management was supposed to tell him and, for whatever reason, they didn’t do it. I think that was a terrible thing to do to him.”
Questioned on whether he could have asserted that it wasn’t his call to axe his solo from the track, Mustaine continues:
“Having been a partner with Marty for so many years, as much of an enigma as he was, I could tell he was really upset and he had had enough.
“What happened to Marty was definitely not okay. Our management was supposed to tell him and, for whatever reason, they didn’t do it. I think that was a terrible thing to do to him.”

An excerpt from the feature has been provided below.
‘
Scott Ian (ANTHRAX)
GREATEST GUITAR SOLO: Mr. Crowley, Randy Rhoads. His 1-2-3 punch of chops, technique and melody make this solo the one that not only stands out above all his other work, but above everyone else’s in the Eighties. And it’s fun to “air guitar” to!
BEST RIFF: AC/DC’s Back in Black came out in 1980 and set the tone for the rest of the decade.
ULTIMATE GUITAR ALBUM: Blizzard of Ozz by Ozzy. Randy tops Eddie [Van Halen’s] Women and Children First by a nose hair – and only because he was the new kid and it was all very exciting to hear someone come along A.E. – after Ed – and give us all ear boners.
PIECE OF GEAR THAT SCREAMS ’80s: The Floyd Rose! Eddie, Randy, Alex, Kirk, Dave, Steve, Joe, Neil, Kerry, Jeff, Vernon, me! etc., etc. They’re all first-name basis guitar players who used Floyd’s – and this is only the tip of the iceberg.
GUITARIST OF THE DECADE: Randy Rhoads
GREATEST SHREDDER: Steve Vai
UNDERAPPRECIATED HERO: Ty Tabor of King’s X. Ty’s playing on their two Eighties albums is wholly original. His tone is incredible, his feel, his sense of melody. He’s a monster. You need to listen to King’s X.

GUITARIST OF THE DECADE: Eddie Van Halen
GREATEST SHREDDER: Yngwie Malmsteen

ULTIMATE EIGHTIES ACCESSORY: Sony Walkman

Lita Ford
GREATEST GUITAR SOLO: The Ripper by Lita Ford
BEST RIFF: Close My Eyes Forever by Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne

PIECE OF GEAR THAT SCREAMS ’80s: B.C. Rich guitars
GUITARIST OF THE DECADE: Eddie Van Halen

ULTIMATE EIGHTIES ACCESSORY: A guitar!
Warren DeMartini (RATT)
GREATEST GUITAR SOLO: (Jake E. Lee) Bark at the Moon by Ozzy Osbourne

BEST MOVIE: The Blues Brothers
GREATEST HAIRSTYLE: Tommy Lee
ULTIMATE EIGHTIES ACCESSORY: Vitamin B12
Mark Tremonti (CREED)
GREATEST GUITAR SOLO: Jeff Beck’s People Get Ready, a great example of the pure emotion that one of the best players that ever lived is capable of laying down.
BEST RIFF: Lay It Down by Ratt. It is just that classic Eighties metal-era iconic riff that everybody’s learned over the years.
ULTIMATE GUITAR ALBUM: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Texas Flood
PIECE OF GEAR THAT SCREAMS ’80s: The ADA MP-1, a rack-mounted guitar processor. I never got the MP1, but I did have the MP2.
GUITARIST OF THE DECADE: Eddie Van Halen, hands down.
GREATEST SHREDDER: Eddie Van Halen. He’s the godfather of shred guitar and put that style of playing on the map.
UNDERAPPRECIATED HERO: Neal Schon.
BEST MOVIE: Crossroads was one of the reasons I wanted to start playing guitar. The “cutting heads” scene is one of the most iconic guitar movie scenes of all time.
GREATEST HAIRSTYLE: Dee Snider
ULTIMATE EIGHTIES ACCESSORY: The Rockman Sustainor rack that Tom Scholz created.
Marty Friedman (MEGADETH)
GREATEST GUITAR SOLO: Wuthering Heights by Pat Benatar (Neil Giraldo)

ULTIMATE GUITAR ALBUM: Crimes of Passion by Pat Benatar. Every solo is totally different, and every song has lots of unique and very effective guitar work.
PIECE OF GEAR THAT SCREAMS ’80s: Quadraverb
GUITARIST OF THE DECADE: It would be impossible to choose one, probably thanks to the high standard set by EVH.
UNDERAPPRECIATED HERO: Steve Lukather. People know how great he is, but many are not aware that his massive body of musical work is so overwhelmingly expansive and diverse that there are literally no rivals as far as I know.
BEST MOVIE: The Last American Virgin

Marty Friedman: “I have a new song, a collaboration with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, The Japan Heritage Theme Song. It won’t be released or for sale, but you can listen to it here, please enjoy!
“It was a thrill and an honor to be asked by the Japanese Government to compose this music. It will be played and performed at official events and functions from now on. As a foreigner living in Tokyo, I`ll always appreciate the gracious treatment I`ve received here and welcome this kind of responsibility in the future.”
The Japan Heritage Official Theme Song, written and produced by Marty Friedman, has been embedded below. Performed by Marty Friedman and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, strings arranged by Akira Sasaki, bass by Kiyoshi, piano by Yukiko Takada, Tsuzumi by Shonosuke Okura, drums by Mitsuru Kurauchi.
Marty Friedman:: “Mixing of the live album started yesterday (5/6), and it was a thrill to put up the tracks and hear all of your voices again. So glad we got a document of this tour-my band and I love touring more than anything else, more to come once this monster comes out…”
Marty Friedman::”Live album mixing, day 2, almost done. Digging it so far. Our show is 2 hours 10 minutes, I’m having a hell of a time deciding what to cut, so it’s likely that the streaming version will have the whole show…”

Marty Friedman: “If you’re in Japan, you gotta try this chocolate! Nothing like it anywhere. Amazing texture…”
Chocolat Veil

Marty Friedman began his career as a Shrapnel Records solo recording artist and later joined forces with Jason Becker (David Lee Roth) to form the guitar duo, Cacophony. Amassing worldwide acclaim as a guitar hero, he soon came to the attention of Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, who teamed with Friedman to record Megadeth’s ‘Platinum’ certified, Rust in Peace. The pair would go on to record four more studio albums together. Friedman has continued to record solo records, often embarking on adventurous musical forays far removed from his work with the group, including an album with Golden Globe winner Kitaro.
Originally from Washington D.C., the guitarist has also lived in Hawaii, Germany and California. He currently resides in Tokyo, Japan.

Blood, Frets and Tears is a music documentary celebrating the guitar and many of the great players from the 60s through the 80s. Directed by Andrew Klein [Randy Rhoads: The Quiet Riot Years (2012) and Tuff Luck (2015)], the upcoming film is currently set to be released on November 11, 2017, however, the official trailer, which has been embedded below, gives a release date of December 2017.
The world was first brought to its collective knees through the innovations and inventiveness of four extraordinarily gifted guitar gods who emerged during the 1960s: Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. True masters, this quartet revolutionized the sound and style of the electric guitar. Then in the late ‘70s, another God-in-waiting emerged, a European immigrant who would create his own six-string vocabulary. What Eddie Van Halen wrought on “Eruption,” a track from the group’s eponymous debut album, was a style that would come to be known as tapping. This unorthodox approach to guitar playing coupled with his spectacular fretboard wizardry and mindblowing musicality and imagination, ushered in a new generation of players all consumed by the pursuit of mastering this new tapping phenomenon.
Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, George Lynch, and other forward-thinking fret warriors cracked the code and added personal twists, deviations and left turns in writing a lexicon all their own. These whammy bar wonders were out in front in leading the charge of a sonic assault that was eventually heard ‘round the world.
Blessed with extraordinary gifts and driven in a singular fashion that is difficult to imagine, these electric troubadours sacrificed all they had in hopes of finding their own voices. Now these plugged-in pioneers tell their tales in a series of candid and historic interviews. The film brings together compelling conversations with legendary guitar builders, renowned music journalists, photographers and influential record executives who closely examine both the birth and aftershock of an unprecedented musical movement.
Grammy-nominated recording artist and legendary guitarist, as well as Ambassador of Japan Heritage, Marty Friedman returns with Wall of Sound, the much anticipated follow-up to his Billboard charting album, Inferno. The album was produced by Friedman, engineered by Paul Fig (Ghost, Rush) and mixed by Jens Bogren (Kreator, Sepultura) and will be released worldwide this Friday (August 4) via Prosthetic Records.
Today, Friedman released the official video for “Whiteworm”, located above. After watching the video, it only made me wish he was bringing some of that shit to Megadeth.

1. Self Pollution
2. Sorrow And Madness (featuring Jinxx)

Former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman has completed recording and mixing his upcoming album. The album is now being mastered, a process the guitarist describes as, “it`s like you have this perfectly gorgeous girl who looks amazing with no makeup. Then you take her in for a “make-over” because if she looks this good w/o makeup, imagine how stunning she will be with a fresh coat of girl paint. But as we all know, many knockouts have been absolutely ruined by putting makeup on the wrong way. Mastering is this situation, but with music, and once you slap that makeup on, it stays on forever, so you gotta make sure you LOVE it before you say, “it`s done”.”
The new effort was produced by Swedish producer Jens Bogren (Kreator, Sepultura) and was partly tracked at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in California with engineer Paul Fig (Rush, Deftones). It was previously described by Friedman as “a way more intense version” of its predecessor, 2014’s Inferno.” Like Inferno, the album will feature several guests, including Jørgen Munkeby of the Norwegian jazz-metal outfit Shining, progressive-thrash band Mutoid Man and Jinxx of Los Angeles theatrical rockers Black Veil Brides. “I’m a big fan of Jinxx and Black Veil Brides,” Marty recently told Guitar World. “He came to my show in L.A. in 2015. Right after that, I was told that he plays violin. I didn’t even know that! Then light bulbs went off. I thought now’s the chance to really turn some heads by doing something that’s a little bit, well, a lot, unexpected to my fans and his fans.”

Guitar virtuoso Marty Friedman relies on only the best of everything to deliver his unique one-of-a-kind guitar mastery. EMG had been part of this equation for the former Megadeth guitarist for years. EMG president and founder Rob Turner set out to develop a brand new passive signature set for Marty that delivered all of the dynamic response, power, punch and clarity that only EMG can. With alnico 5 magnets and a brand new recipe for winding the custom made bobbins, the result was exactly what Marty had been searching for. Available in Marty’s favorite brushed black chrome finish, these pickups look as deadly as they sound. Marty commented, “When I heard this pickup, I knew it was ‘the one’ because it made me want to keep playing and never stop. This is my sound. I’m glad EMG took the time to get it right.”
