Krokus Singer Marc Storace on His ’70s Band TEA – VIDEO

Marc Storace: MILESTONES ALONG MEMORY LANE

Founded originally in 1971, the 3 members of TEA [the name came about by taking an initial from each of their names] decided to look for a vocalist and found me as the perfect man for the job.

In order to promote the new band formation, we created a huge, over 6 foot tall poster with portraits of each musician, taken by our Manager Peter Waelti, as well as individual posters. We placed the picture of bassist Turo Paschayan instead of the “T” in the Name “TEA?”, Drummer Roli Eggli’s picture over the”E”, guitarist Armand Volker’s picture over the “A”.

The marketing idea was to promote the brand name further and to create curiosity about the ‘mystery’ man on vocals. Who is he? Where did he come from? The “M” of Marc was close enough to the word ‘question mark’ and thus we used the “?” symbol.

The huge poster [left side] was placed on billboard like poster pillars that were popular in those days, also as display in record stores and even fashion boutiques.

TEA went on to a successful career not just in Switzerland but also all over Europe. Three studio albums [TEA, The Ship, Tax Exile], released between 1974 and 1976, one ‘best of’ album in 1978 and another one in 2009 that included also 2 songs that were never released on an album [Reloaded] tell the story.

And the rest is [music] history!

Helix Vocalist Remembers 1985 Tour w/ W.A.S.P. & Krokus

Brian Vollmer’s flashback from 1985 : “Here are some shots (located below) from a tour we did back in the day with Krokus and W.A.S.P. –  These two bands HATED each other with a passion. The clip starts off with Marc Storace of Krokus and guitar player Fernando von Arb talking about how they are going to f**k over W.A.S.P. (they were the headliner on this tour through California) The clip ends with W.A.S.P. coming offstage to their dressing rooms, with Chris Holmes eating his snot and flashing his ass at the camera.

“It’s too bad they didn’t get along ‘cos both bands were great. This was the ORIGINAL W.A.S.P. we were playing with on this particular tour. Blackie had an amazing voice and I loved that first W.A.S.P. album. Ditto for Krokus: Storace used to do “Screaming in the Night” at soundcheck. That was a song up there where only dogs could hear…LOL.

“It was on this tour that Chewey (Chris Holmes’ nickname cos he looked like Chewbacca from Star Wars) asked if he could come in our dressing room and have a smoke. (Blackie didn’t allow smoking in their dressing room) Chris started talking about his cat, who only had one eye. He told us they got really f**ked up at parties and put different colored M&Ms in the empty eye socket.

“You can’t make this stuff up!”

2017 Big Rocks Tour:
Krokus posted the following message on March 6, 2017:  “Last weekend marked the start of our “BIG ROCKS” 2017 concert season – co-headlining with our old friends GOTTHARD as part of the “ROCK MONSTERS OF SWITZERLAND” shows [special guest SHAKRA] – Thank you Bern and Zurich!!

“At the end of the show the two co-headliners jammed as “grand finale” to a combined crowd of more than 13,000 rocking fans….

“If you did not get your tickets in time for these shows, you still can see the two bands this coming Sunday, March 12th at Salle Metropole in Lausanne [Saturday show already SOLD OUT as well]”

Reviews:

“The great thing about ‘Big Rocks’ is that the sound is full-on vintage power rock with a touch of blues and without any of the usual studio trickery of today. The band sounds raw and flawless and will be a trip down memory lane for lovers of the rock ‘n’ roll classics.” – Metal Wani

“Krokus can’t help but make all of these songs heavier and grittier. The songs are still recognizable, but a few have been beefed up and given a bit of a heavy metal makeover.” -Metal Misfit

“Big Rocks is one of the best cover albums I have heard.” 9/10 -Markus’ Heavy Music Blog
