Formed in 1967, Fleetwood Mac was born out of the British blues revival movement, led by guitarist/singer Peter Green, originally from the legendary John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, which included other distinguished British rockers of the 60s and 70s, such as Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor among them, and drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, whose surnames would inspire the band’s name.
Making their debut as Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac at the British Jazz and Blues Festival in 1967, Green, Fleetwood, McVie, and Jeremy Spencer landed their first Top Five hit on the UK Albums Chart in 1968 with their self-titled debut album and charted with their singles “Black Magic Woman” (later covered by Carlos Santana), “Need Your Love So Bad” and their first #1 hit on the UK charts “Albatross,” from their album The Pious Bird of Good Omen. During this time and throughout the early 1970s, the group’s roster of musicians would shift and sound would evolve towards mainstream rock, with the departure of founding front man Peter Green, and his replacement of Chicken Shack keyboardist and vocalist, Christine Perfect, who would marry Mac bassist John McVie and join the band officially for their fifth studio album, Future Games in 1971.
After the departure of founding member Jeremy Spencer and many other personnel changes, the group led by co-founder Mick Fleetwood and the McVie’s moved to California in 1974 to put down roots and develop a new sound. In 1975, the band was introduced to the folk-rock album Buckingham Nicks consisting of guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks. The duo was invited by Fleetwood to join the band and complete the legendary five-person, three-songwriter line-up most known today as the British-American pop-rock band, Fleetwood Mac, who would captivate audiences all over the world and shatter sales records for decades to come.
“Julien’s Auctions is honored to offer this exceptional collection of music history coming directly from the legendary three members of one of the most influential and rock and roll bands of all time, Fleetwood Mac,” said Martin Nolan, Executive Director and CFO of Julien’s Auctions. “These pieces from their storied five-decade career represent the mystique and magic of Christine McVie, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood, whose renowned musicianship, songwriting, vocal harmonies and camaraderie, have given the world a lifetime of illustrious performances and some of the most beloved and best-selling music ever recorded. We are also pleased to announce that a portion of the auction proceeds will benefit MusiCares, who honored Fleetwood Mac in 2018, as the organization’s Person of the Year, to support the charity’s work providing critical services to underserved members of the music community.”

The Guardian: Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie: ‘Cocaine and champagne made me perform better.’ You can read the entire interview @ this location.
INTERVIEW EXCERPT:
What is your favorite period in Fleetwood Mac’s history and why?
Christine McVie:
I would be silly not to say the Stevie [Nicks] and Lindsey [Buckingham] era, because that was pretty sensational. We had our fights here and there, but there was nothing like the music or the intensity onstage. We weren’t doing anything in Britain, so just decamped to America and fell into this huge musical odyssey.
Stevie and Lindsey had been playing as a duo, made a great record [Buckingham Nicks], which to this day I really love, but hadn’t got very far. I think it was Mick [Fleetwood] who invited them to meet us.
We all met in this Mexican restaurant, drank a few margaritas and decided to give it a go. We all got into this little rehearsal room, and it just shot off like firecrackers.
What was it like being at the center of the Rumours hurricane, with all the drug and relationship issues and stunning creativity?
It’s hard to say because we were looking at it from the inside, but we were having a blast and it felt incredible to us that we were writing those songs. That’s all I can say about it, really.
Fleetwood Mac had a legendary alcohol and drug intake. In Keith Richards’ autobiography, he acknowledges some “blanks” in his memory. Is this the same for you?
No. I have to say I’m not guilt-free in that department, but Stevie and I were very careful. The boys used to get provided with cocaine in Heineken bottle tops onstage, but Stevie and I only did the tiny little spoons. I suppose sometimes we got a bit out-there, but we were quite restrained, really.
I always took fairly good care of myself. My drug of choice was cocaine and champagne. I didn’t use any other drugs at all. It’s easy for me to say, but I think it made me perform better. Maybe somebody could tell me different [laughs].

McVie is getting set to release a new ‘best of’ album called Songbird (A Solo Collection).
The 10-song collection combines songs from her two solo albums, Christine McVie (1984) and In The Meantime (2004), as well as two previously unheard studio recordings, including ‘Slowdown,’ which was composed for the 1985 film American Flyers.
On ‘Slowdown,’ McVie said:
“I was asked to write a song for a film about a cycling competition. So, I thought we’d give it a go. So that’s why the lyrics are sort of muddled up with a little bit of a love song, a little bit of cycling. And it turned out really well, but they didn’t end up using it. We thought it was a pity to waste it, so it’s on here”.
Songbird will be released on June 24, 2022 on black vinyl and CD.
Stevie Nicks: I’m so excited to bring you as close as we can to a concert experience for now. Grab your mask, be socially distant, and enjoy the show! Tickets are available now to see the 24 Karat Concert in cinemas, drive-ins, and exhibition spaces on October 21 & 25.

DANNY KIRWAN
MAY 13, 1950 ~ JUNE 8, 2018
A TRIBUTE FROM
MICK FLEETWOOD AND FLEETWOOD MAC
“Today was greeted by the sad news of the passing of Danny Kirwan in London, England. Danny was a huge force in our early years. His love for the blues led him to being asked to join Fleetwood Mac in 1968, where he made his musical home for many years.
“Danny’s true legacy, in my mind, will forever live on in the music he wrote and played so beautifully as a part of the foundation of Fleetwood Mac, that has now endured for over fifty years.
“Thank you, Danny Kirwan. You will forever be missed!”

The legendary, Grammy-award winning band recently announced a North American tour (minus guitarist Lindsay Buckingham) that will kick off in October and travel through 50+ cities ending in spring of 2019. Produced by Live Nation, the tour will feature the newly announced line-up of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Christine McVie along with newcomers Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Neil Finn (Split Enz, Crowded House).

Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham just relisted a newly built home in Brentwood at its original asking price of $22.5 million. According to the Los Angeles Times, Buckingham bought the property five years ago for $5.8 million and completed the new build last year.
The modern Georgian-style three-story house has wood-shingle siding, white-walled interiors + formal living and dining rooms, dual kitchens, a library, six bedrooms and ten bathrooms. The home also features a screening room with a marble-topped bar.
Nearly 11,000 square feet of living space, the home also includes a guesthouse, swimming pool, terraces, a fire pit, an outdoor shower, lawns and mature landscaping complete the three-quarter acre of grounds.
Buckingham released an album with fellow Mac member Christine McVie on June 9, 2017. The 10-song album was released via Atlantic Records and followed by a run of special U.S. tour dates. The singles “Feel About You” and “In My World” can be heard at this location.
