Scream Taker Featuring Black Sabbath/Dio Drummer Vinny Appice NEW ALBUM/SONG/VIDEO 2022

SCREAM TAKER, FEATURING VINNY APPICE (BLACK SABBATH, DIO), IS SET TO RELEASE ITS DEBUT ALBUM, KILL THE BEAUTIFUL, ON SEPTEMBER 23, THROUGH DEKO ENTERTAINMENT. THE FIRST SINGLE AND VIDEO “STONE COLD” IS OUT NOW.

Scream Taker is a brand-new outfit fronted by Buffalo Music Hall of Fame vocalist Jim Crean (Appice Brothers), alongside French guitarist Steph Honde (Paul Di’Anno, Hollywood Monster), and legendary drummer Vinny Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath, Appice Brothers). The three musicians have created a classic hard rock album in the vein of Dio, which is no surprise as Vinny Appice is one of the founding members of the original Dio band. Appice is currently working in Last in Line alongside Dio alumnus Vivian Campbell (Dio, Whitesnake, Def Leppard).

PRE-ORDER ALBUM

The band recorded the album during the pandemic and post Jim Crean’s short-lived tenure with former KISS guitarist Vinnie Vincent. Crean was to perform with Vincent in his comeback performance alongside Carmine Appice (Ozzy Osbourne, Vanilla Fudge, Appice Brothers) and Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder), which unfortunately never materialized. So instead, we get an amazing album from Scream Taker, with the first single and video out now for “Stone Cold.” In Crean’s own words “Stone Cold is the first release off the new Scream Taker album, titled Kill the Beautiful.

The song takes one on a mystical, epic adventure. The concept is about the King of the Vampires searching for his queen. Once the King has chosen his bride, he must bite her and she becomes his queen, to forever serve the master and oversee the undead. The husband of the queen relentlessly tries to rescue her to no avail. The hero falls and is brought down by the undead and is left to roam for eternity! The video outlines this epic concept in a mini-movie type sequence!”

Kill the Beautiful unleashes 12 original songs including standout tracks “Stone Cold” and “Shattered Mirror.” Jim Crean gives an outstanding vocal performance matched only by Honde’s guitar riffs and Vinny Appice’s signature drumming. This is a must have for fans of any of their previous work.

There are limited edition bundles (while supplies last) for Kill the Beautiful, which can be ordered @ this location.

Product Includes:
– (1) CD Album of Scream Taker – Kill the Beautiful

Ritchie Blackmore Says Freddie Mercury’s Voice was a Cross Between Ronnie James Dio & an Opera Singer – VIDEO – Queen – Brian May – Deep Purple – Rainbow

Ritchie Blackmore:

Queen, I first heard them doing, it was a song about a train. This is about 1974-75. I can’t remember the title, but I was very impressed with the guitar playing and, of course, the singing. I noticed that Freddie Mercury had a cross between Ronnie Dio’s voice and almost like an operatic voice. To me, he was a true star. He knew exactly how to milk an audience. What a musician.

Some of the stuff they put down, all those four-part harmonies, very, very clever stuff. Of course, there’s Brian (May), who’s probably one of the nicest guys in the business and a brilliant guitar player to boot. I worked with Brian on other stuff, and he’s such a nice man. He’s a bit too tall, but he can’t help that. Wonderful band. Excellent band.

I was very surprised they did so well in America. America, I’ve noticed, like the basic chord stuff. They like the blues stuff, the three-chord stuff, which would be like a Stevie Ray Vaughan. With Queen, you have probably twenty-five chords and a lot of changes. I’ve noticed the American market doesn’t usually go for that. I’m surprised they made it so bit over here. For me, that was nice to see.

From a 2020 Guitar World interview with Brian May:

Brian May:

Another great hero of mine. He’s crazy. I mean, yeah, it was extraordinary watching him. I think he’s one of the most dangerous guitar players ever. And I mean that is in the best possible way. Beautiful! He was there way ahead of any of us.”

Ritchie Blackmore on Graham Bonnet: “I was seriously contemplating hitting him over the head with my guitar” – Rainbow – Deep Purple – Alcatrazz

In 1979, vocalist Graham Bonnet was approached to join UK glam rock band The Sweet as replacement for Brian Connolly. However, he was soon chosen by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore to replace Ronnie James Dio as the new singer for Rainbow. Blackmore shares a story from the Rainbow/Bonnet era.

Ritchie Blackmore:

I said, “Graham, our audience expects you to be a bit more not shaved, bit of long hair, a bit more dirty. He said, “Yeah, well, I used to have long hair,” and we’re going, “ok.” I went: “Yeah, but our audience doesn’t want that Las Vegas style jacket and smooth hair. They want a rough looking guy.” So, I thought, if we let him grow his hair longer for the first night in Newcastle, which was about three months away, at least we could get his hair to his collar – rough him up a bit.

Graham Bonnet w/ long hair

He kept threatening to have his hair cut and really short. That’s not going to work with the fans in ’79-’80, everybody was like, the look – long hair, rough, whatever. So, we got Colin Hart (Rainbow’s Tour Manager) to room next to him. I said: “You know what? You make sure Graham doesn’t leave his room. He might go and get his hair cut.” It’s just starting to get a bit longer, and he’s looking a bit rough. Colin goes: “Leave it to me. He won’t get past me.” He kept his door open, and he was right next to Graham’s room. I said, “Good.” At least he’s now looking a bit the part that we can kind of play to our rough audience. They don’t want to see a smooth Las Vegas guy. So, what happens is, Colin calls me up, “Oh, no, guess what?” I went, “What?” He goes, “He got out the back window, got into a taxi and has had his hair cut.” I was seething at the time.

It’s the whole principle of the thing. It doesn’t matter if you’re losing your hair, or whatever. He went out and purposely shaved his hair. He shaved it short like he was going to appear as David Copperfield. I was seething. And he knew, we told him a thousand times not to cut his hair, “Just let it grow and be natural, and I think you’ll be accepted by the fans.” Nope, went out, came back. Of course, he looked ridiculous.

On stage that night, I was seriously contemplating hitting him over the head with my guitar. He was singing to the audience and doing his bit. I saw the back of his shaved neck, and I went, “I’m just going to put my guitar across his head,” but then I’m like, “I’d be back in prison again.” But I really was so tempted to just take it and go, “Whack.” Because he had done it deliberately out of contempt. He knew that to be in our band, it was about roughness, and he had gone out of his way to be Mr. Smooth again.

After that, there was no communication. It was a total breakdown. It was like: “You’re in another world. Go to Las Vegas. You need to be in Las Vegas. We have our audience, which is heavy rockers. They don’t need to see Mr. Las Vegas.”

Graham Bonnet:

It wasn’t my plan to be weird or anything like that. I cut my hair at the suggestion from my then girlfriend. She said, “Why don’t you do something different?” My hair used to get in the way when I was recording, and I was using headphones, so I went for it. I went for the button up shirt with jeans. It was a very 1950s style, which fit in the sense that it was the music that I grew up on. When I was a kid, I would listen to Little Richard, Buddy Holly. I’ve always liked that kind of music and the style of the time or fashion if you will. I stuck with it because it’s what I was I was comfortable with.

When I went for the audition with Rainbow in London, I said to my manager, “You know, I’m not going to fit with these guys. I just don’t think I’m the right guy for this.” They looked different than I did, and I really didn’t think I was right for that band. I had never heard of them because I was in my own world. I never listened to hard rock or heavy metal or whatever. -from an interview with SleazeRoxx.com

I didn’t know about Rainbow at all. I didn’t have a clue about them! I knew Deep Purple, but I certainly didn’t know about Rainbow at that time. Roger Glover got in touch with me and asked if I wanted to come to France to audition for the band. He added that they had already auditioned 79 singers (laughs)! I had nothing to lose. So, I bought a couple of Rainbow albums and flew to France.

I wasn’t into rock at that time. I preferred more R&B stuff, like Stevie Wonder and, of course, The Beatles, my favorite band ever. I wasn’t so much into Purple or Zeppelin because I preferred the singing side of a record and not so much the technical aspect of a song.

Anyway, when I started singing “Mistreated,” I was so loud they started laughing immediately because the microphone wasn’t even on (laughs)! When I sang a little bit with the microphone on, they said after a couple of minutes that the job was mine! It was that simple. -from an interview with Rockpages.gr

Def Leppard’s Vivian Campbell After Seeing Marc Bolan (T. Rex) for the First Time: ‘That’s what I want to do. I want to wear my sister’s clothes” – Interview – 2022 – w/ Phil Collen

Guitar World: Def Leppard’s Vivian Campbell and Phil Collen on writing rock for a stadium audience and learning from ‘80s spandex cringe. You can read the entire interview @ this location.

INTERVIEW EXCERPT:

Let’s start with the T. Rex influence on Diamond Star Halos. As a guitarist, what did Marc Bolan mean to you guys growing up?

Vivian Campbell:

“He started the ball rolling for me. It wasn’t Marc Bolan the guitar player per se; rather, it was the whole thing – his sound and image. He really was the grandfather of the glam rock movement; he had the hair and the androgyny, and of course, he made music that was such infectious ear candy.

“I was about nine years old when I first saw him on Top of the Pops. It was such a lightbulb moment where I went, ‘That’s what I want to do. I want to wear my sister’s clothes. I want to blow my hair and play guitar and make a living doing it.’”

You wanted to be that guy on the cover of Electric Warrior.

“Yeah, exactly! He looked so great with his long hair and that Les Paul. That started me on the path. He just had the whole package, but the music was there. Out of that grew the different people who actually did influence me as a guitarist, like Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore. But I have to say, it was Marc Bolan who set me on my way to discovering them.”

Phil, how about you?

Phil Collen:

“Oh, I thought Marc Bolan was amazing, but for me, it might have been more David Bowie, who was from the same time period. I saw Bowie on Top of the Pops with Mick Ronson playing his Les Paul. The way he held that thing, I was like, ‘My God, this guy is so fucking cool.’

“I was 14 and I was trying to identify myself. I’d already gotten into Deep Purple, Zeppelin and Hendrix, but then came Bowie, Bolan, Roxy Music, the Faces, but especially Bowie. That was the music that spoke to me.”

Now, you guys have a lot of guitars, but if you could boil things down, what were your main instruments for this album?

“For me personally, it was a natural Jackson PC1. I’ve had it since 2007, and it’s the one. I use it on a lot of the solos and things because it just sounds right. I do like my red Jackson PC Supreme – it’s got the fattest neck they’ve ever made.

“It sounds great, but for some reason I didn’t use it all over the album, and I should have. But I kept coming back to the PC1. There were also a couple of Telecasters. I used Squier Telecaster on the solo on This Guitar, and there’s a Squier Starcaster for the lick at the beginning.”

Viv, how about you?

“Mostly Les Pauls. I used my Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul and my original Dio “Holy Diver” Les Paul. I also used a ’66 Telecaster. It’s been refretted with jumbo frets so I can actually bend on it. And I used my original Tom Anderson Strat for when I needed some shimmer or a little front pickup action. Those were the four that I used.”

You can read the entire interview @ this location.
