U2’s fourteenth studio album, Songs of Experience, debuted at #1 in the United States on the Billboard 200 chart. The album shifted more than 185,000 equivalent album units in the week ending December 7th, according to Nielsen Music. Of that total, 180,000 were in traditional album sales.
The album nets the biggest week for a rock album in 2017. The last rock release to top that number was Metallica’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, which debuted at #1 on the December 10, 2016 with 291,000 equivalent album units, of which 282,000 were in traditional album sales.
U2’s released Songs of Experience on December 1, 2017. The album was produced by Jacknife Lee and Ryan Tedder with Steve Lillywhite, Andy Barlow, Jolyon Thomas, Brent Kutzle, Paul Epworth, Danger Mouse, and Declan Gaffney
