Fastway’s “All Fired Up” – 42 Years Later

“All Fired Up” is the second official full-length studio album by Fastway, released on June 22, 1984. Originally conceived by former Motörhead guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke and UFO bassist Pete Way, Fastway evolved quickly, with Way departing before the band ever hit the studio, leaving Clarke to carry the project forward with a new lineup.
By the time of “All Fired Up”, the band’s core was firmly in place with Clarke on guitar, Dave King on vocals, Jerry Shirley on drums, and Charlie McCracken on bass. Recorded with producer Eddie Kramer, the album built on the bluesy, hard‑driving foundation of the debut but pushed for bigger hooks and a more polished ’80s hard rock sound, all while giving Clarke plenty of room to let his riffs and solos cut through.
Looking back years later, Eddie Clarke would often mention that there were strong songs on “All Fired Up” but that he wasn’t entirely happy with how everything turned out sonically, hinting that some trouble was already creeping in by the second record. Still, he regularly put it alongside the first Fastway album as a key part of the band’s legacy, a snapshot of a hungry lineup hitting the road and the studio at full tilt.
Vocalist Dave King would go on to find wider success years later as the frontman of Celtic‑punk/Irish rock favorites Flogging Molly, but for a lot of fans his raw, soulful performance on “All Fired Up” remains one of his defining early statements.
