The crowd at the Kia Forum turned out to see Kevin Hart get roasted at the Netflix Is a Joke festival, but much of the night’s attention shifted to the fireworks between host Shane Gillis, Chelsea Handler, and fellow comic Tony Hinchcliffe. The tone changed early when Gillis brought Handler to the stage with a series of pointed personal and political shots, calling her a “Zionist,” joking about her stance on abortion, and reminding the audience that she once attended a dinner at Jeffrey Epstein’s house, which he described as an intimate gathering that also included Prince Andrew and Woody Allen.
Handler was not interested in letting any of that slide. Taking the podium, she started by correcting Gillis: “Judaism and Zionism are two different things,” she said, before bringing up the slurs that got him bounced from *Saturday Night Live* and cracking that his “favorite slur works in both places.” From there, she pivoted to Hinchcliffe and lit into him with a string of brutal lines, including, “Tony Hinchcliffe is here. Tony is what happens when women don’t have safe access to abortion care.” She pointed out that “Tony and Shane both live in Texas where abortion is illegal, but on the upside, if you see one of them doing comedy, there’s a pretty good chance your uterus will start dry heaving on its own.”
Handler kept pressing, calling Hinchcliffe “a real guy’s guy, or what’s more commonly known as a bottom,” and adding, “Tony, you have the face of a school shooter and the personality of someone who gets shot first.” She even mocked his appearance: “Look at you, you look good! You’ve got like a little Hollywood glow‑up. I didn’t know veneers came in deli mustard yellow. But it actually looks a little bit better in person. You must be using Crest White Supremacist strips.” She tied both comics back together with one of the night’s harshest lines: “Tony and Shane, this must be so exciting for you guys. Usually on Sunday nights, you just burn a cross on someone’s lawn. And tonight you get to roast a whole Black guy. Well, a half a one, because it’s Kevin.” She capped her barrage with, “Tony, quick question: If you’re here tonight, who’s keeping Joe Rogan’s balls warm in their mouth?”
While Gillis seemed able to laugh along with most of the shots thrown his way, cameras caught Hinchcliffe looking noticeably uncomfortable, glancing around and forcing smiles as Handler’s barbs kept landing. The Epstein dinner Gillis referenced is something Handler has addressed before, saying in a past interview that she did not know who Epstein was when she visited his home with Katie Couric and recalling that she confronted Woody Allen at the table about long‑standing allegations.
Viewers and fans quickly took the whole exchange online, debating whether the tension onstage was just roast‑level brutal or something more personal. Some felt Handler looked genuinely furious at being labeled a Zionist; others pointed to Hinchcliffe’s body language as proof that the “bit” hit harder than expected. The reaction has been split between people praising the jokes as sharp, deserved takedowns of MAGA‑leaning comics and others arguing that the night strayed from roasting Hart into open ideological warfare in front of a live audience.
