Personal items and property from the estate of vocalist Ronnie James Dio will be auctioned in September.  The event, hosted by Julien’s Auctions, will take place at The Hard Rock Café in New York on Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15 and online at JuliensLive.com.

Highlights of the auction will feature items from the legendary singer’s stellar career with iconic bands Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio including; several pieces of original album artwork including the acrylic painting by Barry Jackson used as the cover for the 1984 Dio album The Last in Line (estimate $20,000–$30,000); his pair of moon and stars patchwork jeans worn extensively on stage with Rainbow (estimate $2,000–$4,000); Dio’s custom made violet suede vest with tails and red leather shin guards worn on stage and in promotional photographs for the 1985 Sacred Heart Tour (estimate $2,000–$4,000); a personalized Black Sabbath hooded velour robe from the 1981 Mob Rules tour worn regularly back stage (estimate $1,000–$2,000); Dio’s personal rolling wardrobe case (estimate $800–$1,200); some of the most ambitious and spectacular stage design rock has ever seen with props such as a monumental animatronic sphinx on plinth base from the 1984 The Last In Line tour (estimate $2,000–4,000) and a massive animatronic dragon’s head from the 1985 Sacred Heart tour (estimate $3,000–5,000); an array of Dio’s studio and stage used instruments and gear such as a custom Charvel guitar featuring a one–of–a–kind wizard paint motif (estimate $3,000–$5,000); a 1978 “Gold” record award commemorating Australian sales of the Rainbow album Rising (estimate $600–$800) and a 1978 “Gold” record award for the album Rainbow: On Stage (estimate $600–$800) and much more.

Joe Satriani “Thunder High on the Mountain” New Song, Glenn Hughes, Chad Smith

The second single from Joe Satriani’s forthcoming 16th studio album, What Happens Next, is now available in its entirety on Spotify, as an instant-grat track for iTunes pre-orders.  The song is called “Thunder High on the Mountain” and it has been embedded below.

What Happens Next will be released on January 12 via Sony/Legacy.  The new instrumental album features a power trio of Satriani on guitar along with two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees: Deep Purple/Black Country Communion bassist Glenn Hughes and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, the latter reuniting with Satriani for the first time since their work in the supergroup Chickenfoot with Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony.

Satriani once again teams up with producer/engineer/mixer Mike Fraser. Fraser has recorded and mixed every AC/DC album since 1990’s The Razors Edge and has been a frequent collaborator with Satriani since the release of Crystal Planet in 1998, producing, engineering or mixing Satriani’s solo albums as well as both studio projects by Chickenfoot.

The Who Announce ‘Maximum As & Bs’ Box Set

The Who will release a new box set of singles and EPs, available on Oct. 27.

Maximum As & Bs is a five-CD set that features 86 tracks from the Brunswick, Reaction, Track and Polydor labels, and collects every single A/B-side, as well as every EP The Who ever released.

The box set starts with “Zoot Suit” and “I’m the Face,” which were released when The Who were still calling themselves The High Numbers. Of course, classic tracks like “My Generation,” “Pinball Wizard” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” are all included. A complete tracklisting can be found below.

Saxon to Release ‘Into the Labyrinth’ Limited Edition Picture Disc on Record Store Day


A picture disc vinyl pressing of Saxon’s 2009 release, Into the Labyrinth, will be available on Record Store Day 2017 (April 22nd). The A-side will feature the original cover painting by longtime Saxon artist Paul Gregory, while the B-side will feature a painting by Kai Swillus. Limited to 2000 copies worldwide.

On January 27th, Krokus released a brand new collection of cover songs, called Big Rocks. The album pays tribute to bands and artists like Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Who, Steppenwolf, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. Krokus provides a fresh new take on classic tracks such as “My Generation”, “Tie Your Mother Down”, “Whole Lotta Love”, “Quinn The Eskimo”, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, “Born To Be Wild” and others. “It is a homage, a nod to all those artists who paved the way for us, making it possible for us to do what we do,” says bass player Chris von Rohr. Big Rocks offers a total of 14 tracks: 13 cover songs and a re-recorded version of KROKUS’ hit “Backseat Rock N’ Roll”.
