Ex-TNT Vocalist Tony Harnell Cancels 2020 Melodic Rock Fest Appearance + Australian Tour Dates

Tony Harnell: I deeply regret to announce to my fans in Australia that I won’t be performing at the Melodic Rock Fest, or the subsequent shows due to contractual obligations not being met.
Without getting into detail, I hung in as long as I possibly could.

It has been a lifelong dream of mine to come to beautiful Australia, especially after the recent summer with the devastating fires.
I was hoping to come spread a little love in the form of music.

I feel for those of you who’ve been waiting and were excited to finally see me live.

I hope to rebook a tour as soon as possible.

Tony Harnell & The Mercury Train-Round Trip-White Vinyl/LP – Limited Release

Tony Harnell: So excited to announce the official reissue of an album I’m really proud of on limited edition white vinyl! Pre order now.

PRE-ORDER

Tony Harnell & The Mercury Train
Album: Round Trip
On Limited White Vinyl

Limited edition on white vinyl and limited to 500 copies worldwide. First time on LP / Originally release on CD in 2010.

This is a masterful and critically acclaimed acoustic retrospective of Tony Harnell’s prolific career. With new arrangements and a stellar production, these great songs sound fresh and vibrant with a new spark breathed into them by some of New York City’s finest musicians.

This is a very special record: a stripped down, reinvented retrospective of Tony Harnell’s past classics originally recorded with his previous bands TNT, Westworld and Starbreaker, with one brand new song “Anywhere But Here” recorded especially for this release.

The idea of re-recording some repertoire classics came about after Tony performed some low key shows in New York in late 2008, with some talented and accomplished musicians that were not part of the Metal/Hard Rock scene.

The desire was to breathe new life into the songs with new arrangements, key changes and added parts, it’s like listening to songs you know in a whole new way.

Tracklisting:
1. Somebody Told You
2. Intuition
3. Month Of Sundays
4. Lonely Nights
5. Shame
6. Northern Lights
7. Down To The River To Pray

9. 10k Lovers
10. Uninvited
11. Ready To Fly

Tony Harnell, “RIP Tony Mills” Former TNT / Shy Singer Dies @ 57

Tony Harnell: RIP Tony Mills. A true gentleman and huge talent gone too soon. My heart goes out to his family at this difficult time. ?

Anthony Paul Mills
07.07.1962-18.09.2019
It is with a shattered heart that I announce the passing of my loving husband and best friend Tony Mills. He was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in April of this year and lived his life to the fullest until he exhaled for the last time in my arms. He wanted to live, but wasn’t afraid of death.
Most will know him through his incredible contribution to the music world as a singer in bands like Shy and TNT as well as a solo artist and session vocalist. He leaves behind him a legacy that will live on for many lifetimes.
Those people closest to him will also know him as a gentle and kind soul, a dedicated husband with a love for the quiet life, his animals and his motorbikes. His sense of humour was always on point. His last summer was the happiest in his life, at the end of each day he exclaimed “It’s been another fantastic day!” He spent a lot of time in his workshop fixing up his dirtbike so he could ride it later this autumn. The evening before he passed, he managed to whisper:
“I’ve had a good life. I’ve had a GOOD life. I’m just a bit pissed about the bike.”

Ugh, I knew this day was coming sooner than later, for anyone who knew of this kind, talented man, knows how much this one truly digs deep. I met Tony Mills back in 1985 or '86 when his band Shy were brought to LA by their label to collaborate on songs for a follow up album. I don't know if we ever did come up with something used or not but what I did get out of it was meeting an absolute gent, a humbled yet great singer who through the years we would send little hello's and how are ya's until I heard he was ill. I regret not having more, especially recent communication with him, its typical of us to be too busy or not as available in our later years for so many reasons but the world that knew him and I will miss this one very much! RIP TM!

Ex-TNT/Skid Row Vocalist Tony Harnell Launches Blog 2019

Tony Harnell:  “Hey friends check out my new blog! Second installment just posted. Just some short writings from my heart along the journey back to me?”

Excerpt:

A Rebel Reduced to Hair

The genre of music that I’ve been involved in for my entire career is an odd one. The days of rock and long hair being a rebellious force against injustice are long behind us, especially in this genre. In the 80’s, rock became pure entertainment and few acts delved into real issues. There were some exceptions of course, including my own band ie; Child’s Play, Desperate Night, Purple Mountains Majesty and Angel’s Ride to name a few, addressed some important topics. And no, we weren’t a huge band but that’s how I did my small part.

So when people tell artists to shut up and sing, it doesn’t even make sense. Since the beginning of time, art has been a reflection of its time. It’s always been a cultural influencer. All art. From Shakespeare to Munch, Mozart to Michelangelo. And that’s the fear, obviously, of those who make that statement and those who wish to silence artists.

Of course I am a big fan of love songs like anyone else and have written a lot of them, but I’m an even bigger fan of honesty in both life and art and anything that pushes us to think and to feel more. I want all the grit and the dark depth, as well as the beautiful light and all the shades in between. Art should make us talk. It should be a bridge where people listen together and meet inside the music. The lyrics can’t be and shouldn’t be ignored. It’s called a song because it’s music AND lyrics.

I put out a highly introspective album earlier this year that, for all of it’s shortcomings, was full of the honesty I felt during the process. But now I have a different honesty I want to connect to outside of the confinements of that genre and that label. Yes, that is a label which supports art as commerce and that has it’s place and keeps the sound of that time alive.

But for me, I’ve not continued to be true to myself in life or art. I’m aware that some might be saying to themselves, yep, he’s lost it! But no, actually I’ve finally found it. I just took a 6 year joyride to hell and am fighting my way back. It was an ugly vacation from myself. But I’m here and recovery takes time.
