The Beatles “Helter Skelter”: Paul McCartney Made It Up On The Spot

The Beatles (Official):   “‘Helter Skelter’ was a track we did in total madness and hysterics in the studio. Sometimes you just had to shake out the jams, and with that song – Paul’s bass line and my drums – Paul started screaming and shouting and made it up on the spot.” – Ringo

Paul McCartney was inspired to write “Helter Skelter” after reading an interview with the Who’s Pete Townshend where he described their latest single, “I Can See for Miles”, as the loudest, rawest, dirtiest song the Who had ever recorded. McCartney said he then wrote “Helter Skelter” “to be the most raucous vocal, the loudest drums, et cetera” and that he was “using the symbol of a helter skelter as a ride from the top to the bottom; the rise and fall of the Roman Empire – and this was the fall, the demise.” While the phrase also refers to chaos and disorder, in British English, a helter skelter is a fairground attraction consisting of a tall spiral slide winding round a tower. McCartney has cited this song as a response to critics who accuse him of writing only ballads and being “the soppy one.” –Wikipedia

Joe Rogan, “Watched “Yesterday” Tonight. What a Fantastic Movie.”

Joe Rogan: Watched “Yesterday” tonight. What a fantastic movie. Reminded me how fucking amazing The Beatles were. Really well acted too. I enjoyed the shit out of it. The great Paul Mooney once told me that if you want to be inspired to perform go be entertained. I never forgot that lesson, and this movie reminded me of it like no other.

Yesterday, everyone knew The Beatles. Today, only Jack remembers their songs. He’s about to become a very big deal. From Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later) and Richard Curtis, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually and Notting Hill, comes a rock-n-roll comedy about music, dreams, friendship, and the long and winding road that leads to the love of your life.

Jack Malik (Himesh Patel, BBC’s Eastenders) is a struggling singer-songwriter in a tiny English seaside town whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading, despite the fierce devotion and support of his childhood best friend, Ellie (Lily James, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again). Then, after a freak bus accident during a mysterious global blackout, Jack wakes up to discover that The Beatles have never existed … and he finds himself with a very complicated problem, indeed.

Performing songs by the greatest band in history to a world that has never heard them, and with a little help from his steel-hearted American agent, Debra (Emmy winner Kate McKinnon), Jack’s fame explodes. But as his star rises, he risks losing Ellie — the one person who always believed in him. With the door between his old life and his new closing, Jack will need to get back to where he once belonged and prove that all you need is love.

Featuring new versions of The Beatles’ most beloved hits, Yesterday is produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Love Actually, About A Boy, the Bridget Jones series) alongside Matthew James Wilkinson and Bernie Bellew. Curtis and Boyle also produce. Nick Angel and Lee Brazier serve as executive producers.

Paul McCartney on Photographer Robert Freeman’s Death, “I will miss this wonderful man” 2019

Paul McCartney:

Dear Robert Freeman has passed away. He was one of our favourite photographers during the Beatles years who came up with some of our most iconic album covers. Besides being a great professional he was imaginative and a true original thinker. People often think that the cover shot for Meet The Beatles of our foreheads in half shadow was a carefully arranged studio shot. In fact it was taken quite quickly by Robert in the corridor of a hotel we were staying in where natural light came from the windows at the end of the corridor. I think it took no more than half an hour to accomplish.

Bob also took the Rubber Soul cover; his normal practice was to use a slide projector and project the photos he’d taken onto a piece of white cardboard which was exactly album sized, thus giving us an accurate idea of how the finished product would look. During his viewing session the card which had been propped up on a small table fell backwards giving the photograph a ‘stretched’ look. Instead of simply putting the card upright again we became excited at the idea of this new version of his photograph. He assured us that it was possible to print it this way and because the album was titled Rubber Soul we felt that the image fitted perfectly.

I will miss this wonderful man but will always cherish the fond memories I have of him.

Thanks Bob.

Love Paul

Ringo Starr “Grow Old With Me” by John Lennon w/ Paul McCartney+Jack Douglas 2019

John Lennon (Official): GROW OLD WITH ME✌️❤️⭐️⠀⁣
Ringo Starr performs John Lennon’s ‘Grow Old With Me’ on his hew album ‘What’s My Name?’, featuring Paul McCartney on bass and backing vocals.⠀⁣

Ringo Starr: “Jack Douglas asked if I ever heard The Bermuda Tapes, John’s demos from that time, and I had never heard all this. ⁣

The idea that John was talking about me in that time before he died, well, I’m an emotional person. And I just loved this song. I sang it the best that I could. I do well up when I think of John this deeply. And I’ve done my best. We’ve done our best. ⁣

The other good thing is that I really wanted Paul to play on it, and he said yes. Paul came over and he played bass and sings a little bit on this with me. So John’s on it in a way. I’m on it and Paul’s on it. It’s not a publicity stunt. This is just what I wanted. ⁣

And the strings that Jack arranged for this track, if you really listen, they do one line from “Here Comes The Sun.” So in a way, it’s the four of us.” ⠀⁣

And as a little tribute, it’s nice to see Ringo wearing a badge made from the John Lennon USA Postage Stamp on the cover of the album.⠀⁣

Maximum Volume: The Life of Beatles Producer George Martin, The Early Years, 1926–1966

PURCHASE

Maximum Volume offers a glimpse into the mind, the music, and the man behind the sound of the Beatles. George Martin’s working-class childhood and musical influences profoundly shaped his early career as head of the EMI Group’s Parlophone Records. Out of them flowed the genius behind his seven years producing the Beatles’ incredible body of work, including such albums as Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Abbey Road. The first book of two, Maximum Volume traces Martin’s early years as a scratch pianist, his life in the Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War, and his groundbreaking work as the head of Parlophone Records, when Martin saved the company from ruin after making his name as a producer of comedy recordings. In its most dramatic moments, Maximum Volume narrates the story of Martin’s unlikely discovery of the Beatles and his painstaking efforts to prepare their newfangled sound for the British music marketplace. As the story unfolds, Martin and the band craft numerous number-one hits, progressing towards the landmark album Rubber Soul—all of which bear Martin’s unmistakable musical signature.

Were The Beatles Planning Another Album After ‘Abbey Road?’

Guitar World:  The Beatles were, in fact, planning another album after Abbey Road, according to newly unearthed audio

For 50 years it has been accepted as fact that, following the tense sessions for Let It Be, the Beatles recorded Abbey Road as their swan song and then proceeded to break up.

But a newly unearthed recording from September 8, 1969 – two weeks before the release of Abbey Road – challenges that piece of history.

The tape, which Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn shared with The Guardian, captures John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison at Apple headquarters in London’s Savile Row discussing plans for a new album.

The three address drummer Ringo Starr, hospitalized at the time with an intestinal issue, as well as bicker with each other regarding song contributions. –READ MORE
