Fred Saunders wasn’t just another security guy in a tour jacket for Mötley Crüe in the mid‑’80s, he was the line between total chaos and the next show actually happening. Brought in for the Shout at the Devil run and kept on through the Theatre of Pain and Girls, Girls, Girls tours, he served as head of security, living on the road and riding the bus with the band while they were becoming one of the wildest arena acts on the planet. Managers literally paid him bonuses to “keep the drug thing contained” and, if necessary, physically rein the guys in.
