Joe Rogan: I watched a really interesting documentary tonight. “Dirtbag – the legend of Fred Beckey”. I just scrolled past it on AppleTV and watched it on a whim. It’s about one of the most legendary and accomplished climbers ever. He started out back in the ’30s and the movie follows him deep into his late ’80s still just completely obsessed with climbing. The term “dirt bag” refers to a climber that never gets a real 9 to 5 and just gets by however they can, sleeping in a sleeping bag, just completely focused on climbing. For someone like me who definitely does too many things there’s something incredibly appealing about the life of a man with a singular focus. There’s something undeniably zen about Fred’s existence, with no worries about the future, and nothing on the agenda other than finding the next mountain to climb and enjoying the spectacular beauty of nature. Really well made movie too. I highly recommend it.
