When you just happened to be texting each other and the other goes, “can I call you, too much to text.. “… “yeah ok” … “hey what city are u in” “oh really, me too.. what hotel ?” “What!?? Holy shit ! So am I “ hahah…Ladies and gents, Mr. James LoMenzo!

We go back to Pride&Glory 1993, then Slash’s Snakepit 1995, and many other projects over the years! He’s now back in Megadeth full time, and has spent many years with John Fogerty, David Lee Roth, Black Label Society, Ace Frehley, White Lion and many others! A massive freight train of a bass player!
So nice to cross paths in a completely serendipitous way! (And just as nice to take advantage of one of the few big words I know! Ha)
We need way more than one evening’s hang to properly catch up!
We are both at Hellfest Saturday so I’m going to try to stick around and watch the mighty Megadeth and James do their thing that night!
Classic Rock Magazine: Ozzy Osbourne, “I don’t plan on going anywhere, but my time’s going to come…” Read the entire interview @ this location.
HIGHLIGHT:
Ozzfest really took off in the late ’90s. You must be proud of that.
Ozzy Osbourne:
Oh yeah. I mean, that was a Sharon department, not me. Sharon tried to get me on Lollapalooza, and they told her they didn’t think I was relevant anymore, that I was a dinosaur. So she said fuck them, we’ll do our own thing. Ozzfest gave new bands a stage. There’s no platform now for new bands to play.
Your most recent album, Ordinary Man, scored eight out of ten in Classic Rock. You must have bee pleased with it?
Yeah, it was alright. I’ve just finished another one. I’ve got Jeff Beck on it, Tony Iommi, Zakk Wylde, Eric Clapton, the guitar player from Pearl Jam. It’s coming out as soon as it’s been mixed.
Do you think streaming has been good or bad for rock music?
Spotify is a fucking joke. The royalty aspect of making music has gone right down the toilet.
Do you think about mortality?
At fucking seventy-three I’ve done pretty well. I don’t plan on going anywhere, but my time’s going to come.

DEREK SHERINIAN shares new single “The Vortex” from upcoming album. Simon Phillips returns on drums along with guest appearances from Michael Schenker, Nuno Bettencourt, Zakk Wylde, Steve Stevens, and more.
World acclaimed keyboardist Derek Sherinian, (Sons of Apollo, Black Country Communion), one of the most significant keyboard players of the modern era, will be releasing his upcoming new album, ‘Vortex’, on July 1st, 2022 on InsideOutMusic. Returning alongside Sherinian is legendary drummer Simon Phillips, who once again co-wrote and co-produced the album, as well as Tony ‘The Fretless Monster’ Franklin, on bass.
Today, Derek is pleased to release the title track from the album.
Check out “The Vortex”:

1 The Vortex feat. Steve Stevens

4 Seven Seas feat. Steve Stevens
5 Key Lime Blues feat. Joe Bonamassa, Steve Lukather
6 Die Kobra feat. Michael Schenker, Zakk Wylde

The Vortex is available as:

The follow-up to 2020’s The Phoenix, Vortex includes eight tracks built on his signature chameleonic sound that blends rock with elements of funk, prog, and jazz, which he started writing even before The Phoenix was finished. “Vortex is a continuation of The Phoenix,” Sherinian states. “However, I feel the composition is stronger on the new album, and I would describe it as a modern-day 70s-style fusion record, but with newer heavier tonality.”
When it came to guitars, Sherinian recruited a who’s who of great players, some of whom he had worked with before – Steve Stevens, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Lukather, Zakk Wylde, Sons Of Apollo bandmate Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal – and a few new allies, in the form of Michael Schenker, Mike Stern, and Nuno Bettencourt. “The choice of guitarist works itself out in the writing,” he explains. “Also, like in the case of Steve Stevens, we co-wrote the song together, so it was natural for him to play on it.” Of his new collaborators, he says of Bettencourt, who appears on the scratchy “Fire Horse”, “I have always been a fan of his playing, and I am glad that we finally got to record together. He has the Van Halen swing and swagger to his playing that I love. We were both born in 1966, the Chinese year of the Fire Horse.”
According to Sherinian, Schenker’s inclusion was a no-brainer. “Michael Schenker has been one of my heroes for many years. He asked me to play on his Immortal album, and in return, he agreed to play on “Die Kobra”. I wanted to write a great song inspired by my favorite Schenker tracks. Zakk Wylde added some great additional parts to the song, and Tony Franklin and Simon Phillips sound great, as usual.”
Keyboardist Derek Sherinian has more than made a name for himself. After all, MusicRadar.com deemed him “A true shredder, his virtuoso playing has seen him dubbed the keyboard-playing version of Eddie Van Halen,” in 2020. Moreover, in 2021 he was voted Greatest Keyboardist Of The 21st Century, and the eighth Greatest of All Time by the same site, and Prog Magazine saw him voted the ninth Greatest Keyboardist Ever. But then you don’t rack up a resumé such as his without some serious chops, having worked with the likes of Dream Theater, Black Country Communion, Billy Idol, Whitesnake – David Coverdale stated in 2020, “Derek plays like the son of Jon Lord”, – Kiss, current band Sons Of Apollo, and Alice Cooper – who in 1989 called him the “Caligula of keyboards”.
James LoMenzo: My old BLS rig AKA, “The Ashdown Warehouse.” A very sensible 3000 watts. (The microphone was installed to throw the guitar players off the scent of how very loud this was). Still have all of this, I use a third of it these days with Megadeth. @ashdownmusic #spothevu (really?)

Our new album Doom Crew Inc. is OUT NOW
Metal Hammer: Zakk Wylde: “My doctor said I’d need a liver transplant.” Read the entire interview @ this location.

When did Jeffrey Phillip Wielandt become Zakk Wylde?
Well, originally my name was Farrah Fawcett but apparently that one was taken. Ozzy said, ‘We’re gonna have to change your name’ and I figured we could go with ‘Paper Asshole’ or ‘Shitbag McGee’, but Ozzy didn’t like that either. He was like, ‘We’ll call you Zakk Wylde’ and I was like, ‘Hey, it works!’”
So it was thanks to Ozzy that you changed your name?
Yeah, but my wife still calls me Paper Asshole!”
In 1992 you were in Ozzy’s band for the No More Tours run, supported by Ugly Kid Joe and Motörhead. What are your memories of Lemmy?
I didn’t know anybody who didn’t like Lemmy because he was great with everybody he met. And when he and Ozzy got together? Forget about it, they were both hilarious. When Motörhead opened for Oz, every night was Friday night, man. We went out drinking a ton. I remember right before Lemmy passed we had a big birthday celebration at The Whisky [A Go Go] where we played for him. I hugged him and it was like hugging your grandmother – he was just skin and bones at that point.”
We asked Ozzy about you when we last spoke. He said: “Zakk isn’t just a great player, he’s a great guy. He’s worked with me longer than just about any other musician in any other band I’ve been in. He doesn’t fuck about and he doesn’t fuck people about – he’s very loyal and always tells you the truth.”
Ozzy’s the same way as well. Likeminded people attract each other and when I’m with Oz he knows we’re there to do our thing and just go home. He’s the best man, and fucking hilarious. It’s a miracle we ever get anything done.”

As drummer for Vanilla Fudge, Carmine Appice set the grooves for the groundbreaking band‘s 1967 psychedelic debut. Post-Fudge, Bogert, and Appice formed Cactus (seen as an influence on King‘s X and Van Halen). Post-Cactus, the rhythm section found Grammy-winning Guitar Hero Jeff Beck to form the first supergroup: Beck, Bogert & Appice (BBA). One of the premier showmen in rock, Appice became known worldwide for his astonishing live performances, in addition to becoming a highly sought-after session drummer, recording with countless artists throughout his career. In ‘76, he joined the Rod Stewart Band, touring, recording, and writing two of Stewart‘s biggest hits, “Do Ya Think I‘m Sexy” and “Young Turks”. He would go on to form King Kobra, tour with Ozzy Osbourne, and Blue Murder with John Sykes (Whitesnake) and Tony Franklin (The Firm).

Black Label Society builds their music on this simple truth, truth as self-evident on Back in Black as on the dozen songs comprising Doom Crew Inc., the eleventh album from the dependable stalwarts.
Doom Crew Inc. is both a tribute to the band’s “first to bleed, last to leave” road crew and a salute to the legion whose support, stretching back to 1998, rivals that of the KISS Army. The Black Label Society biker-style battle vest “kutte” is as ubiquitous at hard rock and metal shows as a black t-shirt.
Doom Crew Inc. is the fourth BLS album created at the Black Vatican, the studio built at the Wylde residence in 2010. “Ever since Order of the Black, we make all of the Black Label donuts up here,” he says proudly. “We make them, put them in the oven, and then box them up and ship them out.”
The nearly 30 songs amassed then whittled down to 12 for the album began to take shape at the onset of the 2020 pandemic. “I’d sit in the garage with my amp and just write riffs,” Zakk recalls. Longtime bassist John “J.D.” DeServio, drummer Jeff Fabb, and guitarist Dario Lorina convened at the Vatican, resulting in future BLS classics including “Set You Free,” “Ruins,” “Forsaken,” and “Shelter Me.”
“We incorporated Father Dario even more into the solos, doubling with me and being more involved in that regard. It really, truly is a two-guitar album, more so than ever. A twin guitar band, whether it’s the Allman Brothers or Judas Priest, with harmony lines, unison lines, and trading off solos. It stemmed from the live shows, where we’d both go into the crowd and extend songs like ‘Fire It Up.’”
Zakk Wylde: The box set that the world has been waiting for! All twelve original studio recordings on gorgeous color vinyl. Remastered. Refurbished. Reupholstered. Recarpeted. Reassured. Remarried. Restored. Reissued. Relaunched. Reassembled. RE-EVERYTHING.
