Bon Jovi 1984-1994 A Photographic History by Ross Halfin – NEW BOOK – 2022 – Commentary by Doc McGhee

Ross Halfin:

Very pleased to announce my latest book; Bon Jovi coming soon from Rufus Publications.

Pre-Order is available now from the Rufus website.

The book extensively covers the work I did with Bon Jovi from the mid-’80s onwards. Early photoshoots in New Jersey, opening for Kiss, playing early at Donington 1985 all the way to mega stardom, three nights at Wembley Stadium, The Tokyo Dome and every Arena in America; on stage, off stage, on the road etc. This book offers a unique look into one of the most important bands of their era.

At over 400 oversized pages this unique, photographic book covers the band for a ten-year period.

Ross had unique access to the band and the book features both intimate and stunning live portraits of the group as they reached the height of their worldwide fame. Many of the shots have never been published before and were scanned and digitally cleaned for the book. Legendary band manager Doc McGhee provides a full commentary for the text of the book and has also signed the numbered, limited edition version.

As Doc says in the book: “Even today, Jon is still driven. He loves this stuff. He still has the drive. Others might out-sing him, out-play him and out-dance him, but you can’t out-work him. He’s one of the hardest-working guys and one of the best frontmen in the world.”

The book perfectly captures the band at their commercial best and is available in a very limited quantity. The book measures 245mm x 345mm and is printed on 170gsm art paper.

THIS IS A PRE-ORDER AND WILL SHIP NOVEMBER 2022

Photographer Mark Weiss on Touring w/ Motley Crue, “And then Nikki started biting my leg…” – 1984 – 2022

Mark Weiss: On January 10, 1984, Motley Crue began opening up arena shows for the Ozzy Bark at the Moon tour. I would go on the road traveling with Ozzy on his tour bus every once in a while. When I heard Motley was starting to open a leg of the tour, I made sure was there to capture the debauchery. When I saw the Crue they were glad to see me and asked if I wanted to spend a few days traveling with them on their bus. Needless to say – it was a YES! They knew how to party. It was all that you’ve read about and more. As Nikki escorted me on the bus, Tommy was sitting in the driver’s seat and put his leg out to stop me, and then Nikki started biting my leg, with a devilish grin yelling “DRAW BLOOD”. Vince and Mick were settled in on the bus shaking their heads. Needless to say, he drew blood from me but in order for him to stop chopping on me, I had to do the same to him. After some numbness from Tommy pouring Jack Daniels down my throat to ease the pain, I had no choice but to follow orders. I bit Nikki back and passed – what I later found out to be their initiation. I got some of the most classic photos of the CRUE on that trip. Here are a few (scroll the Instagram post below).

Rush: Rare ‘Moving Pictures’ Photo Outtakes Available for the 1st Time – 40th Anniversary

RUSH CELEBRATES THE 40th ANNIVERSARY OF ‘MOVING PICTURES’
BY MAKING RARE PHOTO OUTTAKES AVAILABLE

PROCEEDS TO GRAPES FOR HUMANITY GIFT OF SIGHT PROJECTS

Photographer Deborah Samuel is credited for capturing the now-iconic album cover images for the Rush albums ‘Permanent Waves,’ ‘Moving Pictures,’ ‘Exit…Stage Left,’ and ‘Signals.’ Now in the 40th anniversary year of ‘Moving Pictures’ – long considered one of rock’s all-time classic albums – fans will be able to obtain extremely rare photograph outtakes from the album cover shoot.

To view or purchase a selection from the collection, visit MovingPictures40.com.

Incredibly, these ‘Moving Pictures’ photographs have never been made public. No alternate versions have appeared in magazines, in calendars, in books, or online anywhere, and have now been made available for the first time ever with the release of the Deborah Samuel Collection.

Contained in this ultra-limited-edition curated collection: Three alternate front album covers, three alternate back album covers, and twelve alternate interior album art photographs of both Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee taken from the original ‘Moving Pictures’ photo shoot.

“I clearly remember the day Deborah set up for this cover, and especially the interior series of the ‘Moving Pictures’ photographs,” said Alex Lifeson. “I was jumping around in the dark with a bright strobe flashing away, which was disorienting to say the least, but the results fit so well with the album concept, and I loved the final photos she produced. I’m thrilled to revisit them and make the covers and these interior photos available in support of Grapes For Humanity.”

In partnership with Definitive Authentic, Grapes for Humanity is supporting the Genius 100 Foundation’s (G100) Gift of Sight Campaign and the Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP). Proceeds from the sale of this special anniversary collection of photographs will provide the funds necessary to perform as many sight-restoring surgeries ($125USD per) as possible for those in need in various under-resourced regions around the globe where HCP has operations. These groups are working to eradicate preventable and curable blindness in low to middle-income countries.

“I’m very thankful to Deborah for generously making these rare photographs available to our fans, the proceeds of which will help bring sight to the sightless,” commented Geddy Lee.
