RUSH: Modern Drummer Announces Neil Peart Spirit of Drumming Scholarship
We are happy to announce that Modern Drummer is celebrating the life and legacy of Neil Peart by inspiring an up and coming, young drummer with an incredible opportunity.
In memory of Neil, with the support of his family, Modern Drummer is proud to present an up-and-coming drummer with the annual “Neil Peart Spirit of Drumming Scholarship”.
The scholarship, originally announced at the 2020 Modern Drummer Festival by Carrie Nutall-Peart, provides the recipient with 52 weeks of free drum lessons from world-class drum instructor Dom Famularo, along with a 1-year subscription to Modern Drummer All Access, plus a selection of classic Rush album releases from Universal Music Enterprises.
Potential recipients of the scholarship must be qualified entrants to participate. A “qualified entrant” is defined as someone who is a legal US citizen between the ages of 14 and 21, is not a professional musician, and is not a party to any sponsorship or entertainment contract that, in Modern Drummer’s judgment, conflicts with the spirit of the scholarship.
Potential recipients must submit up to a 2-minute video of their playing AND a short essay describing why this scholarship will be significant to both their life and their drumming. The impact on their drumming has been inspired by Neil’s playing and legacy.

This Denali has 107,000 miles and runs and drives like new. The sunroof recently stopped working. We are thinking the switch or fuse. Will try to get that working. It is fully loaded as all Denali’s are. Has 4 Wheel Drive and has the 6.2, 420 Horse Motor. George’s good friend Danny Koker from the hit TV show Counting Cars, wanted to personalize it for George. George wanted it to be tastefully done so Danny decided to stitch George’s name in the Head Rests and Etched George’s 2 most recognized guitars in the back glass. The etching looks killer in person. Avenged Sevenfold: Our original bass player, Matt Wendt, thought that there’s possibly an A7X fan that would like the bass that he used to record our first demo and play at our first few shows. We’re auctioning it off and he’ll donate the first $500 to charity:
We started Avenged Sevenfold in 1999 while in high school. After a bunch of failed punk bands didn’t work out we were looking for something that blended our love of punk rock, metal and hardcore together. The band started off as a four – piece and would practice daily in M Shadows parents garage. We would go on to write all of our albums through the “white album” in that space. Before that though, all we wanted to do was make a demo and play a couple shows. The original line up consisted of Zacky V, The Rev, Shadows and Matt Wendt. Matt played with us for a couple of years before deciding to head off to college. We had many fun years with him growing up. Recently, we caught up with Matt at a show and he thought that there would possibly be an A7X fan out there that would like his original bass that he played on our first demo. This bass was also played at our first few shows at Chain Reaction, Showcase Theater and others around the OC and Vegas area.
Matt “Tower of Terror” has signed the bass guitar and will be donating the first $500 to charity.
