Sean Ono Lennon: “It’s about how you live and treat others that makes you good or bad” – 2022

Sean Ono Lennon:

Tired of this current phenomenon of dehumanizing groups of ppl or ppl we believe represent groups of ppl. Everyone is doing it, the left, the right, the far left, the far right, the dumb, the brilliant, the midwits—we all do it sometimes, but it has to stop.

As we sit here deep in the trenches of our orchestrated polarization, it is now that we must stand up and unplug from the mob mentality and remember that human beings matter more than opinions.

I mean the smartest person ever said he knew nothing, so we can’t pretend we know enough to judge someone because they think or look or speak differently than we do. Give them the benefit of the doubt unless they are literally mid kick to your head.

And maybe Socrates wasn’t the smartest person ever, but he was certainly one of them. My point is that HE was humble, and that means we all can be too.

And I know I said I don’t like governments and you could say ‘ha! they’re a group of ppl!’ but I didn’t mean I don’t like the people who comprise the govt. what I mean is that the concept of a government seems to either be fiction-meaning there is no government per se, just those w special rights, and those w out, (which doesn’t mean I hate groups like democrats or republicans or socialists or libertarians…because those groups are neither good nor bad, they’re just ideas)—OR that the concept of govt. is at least flawed from a moral perspective. Even in the best case it requires ‘special rights’ for ‘special people.’ Which is really just a way of describing a legal mafia. And maybe that IS the best we can do. I really don’t know.

Of course, I do personally prefer some of those ‘ideas’ to others. But as for the humans who identify with those groups, I judge them as individuals. Are they nice? Do they treat others w kindness? Can they laugh at themselves? That’s what matters to me.

We have plenty of historical monsters who represent all sides of the political spectrum, from fascists to communists, so it’s not so much about political leanings, it’s about how you live and treat others that makes you good or bad.

I feel like I may be only making enemies here but whatever. We have to give each other a break. None of us have solved the problems of humanity so let’s just step back a little, try and listen more and judge less.

Using migrants—human beings w families—as a political gotcha tool is not funny no matter how sound your logic or if you say ‘the other side does this other thing that justifies’ no it doesn’t. Nothing justifies using actual humans as a gotcha. It’s lives we’re talking about.

I just think the powers of division are finally splitting our society apart. Splitting us apart from each other and our humanity. And I’m sick of it. I’m pretty sure most everyone is.

So just don’t fall for the trap of being fomented into a state of unconsciousness where your amygdala shuts down your pre-frontal cortex and you start seeing strangers as non-human. That’s the beginning of the end. We just can’t let that happen. Period.

The idea itself that ‘the left do this’ and ‘the right do this’ is really just an illusion. Some people do things who identify with these abstract labels. Those people never represent everyone in that group. And the group itself is an imaginary construct.

John Lennon “Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)” – The full in bloom Chronicles

George Harrison: John phoned me up one morning in January and said, ‘I’ve written this tune & I’m going to record it tonight and have it pressed up and out tomorrow. That’s the whole point – “Instant Karma!” – you know?’ So I was in. I said, ‘OK, I’ll see you in town.’

“Instant Karma” reached the top five in the British and American singles charts, competing with the Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’ in the US, where it became the first solo single by a member of the band to sell a million copies. It was was conceived, written, recorded and released within a period of ten days, making it one of the fastest-released songs in pop music history.

The recording session took place at Abbey Road Studios in North West London, on the evening of January 27, 1970. Lennon’s fellow musicians at the session were George Harrison, Klaus Voormann, Alan White, and Billy Preston – all of whom had performed at the December 1969 Peace for Christmas Concert, as part of the Plastic Ono Supergroup. The recording engineer for “Instant Karma!” was EMI mainstay, Phil McDonald. Phil Spector produced the session, arriving late after Harrison had found him at Apple’s office and persuaded him to attend.

According to author Bruce Spizer, the line-up for the basic track, before overdubs, was Lennon (vocals, acoustic guitar), Harrison (electric guitar), Preston (organ), Voormann (bass), and White (drums). Lennon later recalled of the recording: “Phil (Spector) came in and said, ‘How do you want it?’ And I said, ‘1950s’ and he said ‘Right’ and BOOM! … he played it back and there it was.” The song uses a similar amount of echo to 1950s Sun Records recordings.

The musicians recorded ten takes, the last of which was selected for overdubbing. To create what Spector biographer Mark Ribowsky terms a “four-man Wall of Sound” production, Lennon added grand piano onto the basic track, while Harrison and White shared another piano and Voormann played electric piano. In addition, Beatles aide Mal Evans overdubbed chimes (or tubular bells) and White added a second, muffled drum part. Rather than an instrumental solo over the third verse, Lennon vocalized a series of what Urish and Bielen term “grunts and moans”. Lennon felt that the chorus was missing something, and so Preston and Evans were sent to a nearby nightclub to bring in a group of people to provide backing vocals. These newcomers and all the musicians, along with Allen Klein, then added chorus vocals, with Harrison directing the singing.

Although Lennon and Spector disagreed over the bass sound, Lennon was delighted with the producer’s work on “Instant Karma”. White’s drums assumed the role of a lead instrument, positioned prominently in the mix. Spector biographer Richard Williams wrote in 1972: “No Beatles record had ever possessed such a unique sound; Spector had used echo to make the drums reverberate like someone slapping a wet fish on a marble slab, and the voices sounded hollow and decayed.” Spector wanted to add a string section to the track in Los Angeles, but Lennon insisted that the recording was complete. –Wikipedia

Ringo Starr “Grow Old With Me” by John Lennon w/ Paul McCartney+Jack Douglas 2019

John Lennon (Official): GROW OLD WITH ME✌️❤️⭐️⠀⁣
Ringo Starr performs John Lennon’s ‘Grow Old With Me’ on his hew album ‘What’s My Name?’, featuring Paul McCartney on bass and backing vocals.⠀⁣

Ringo Starr: “Jack Douglas asked if I ever heard The Bermuda Tapes, John’s demos from that time, and I had never heard all this. ⁣

The idea that John was talking about me in that time before he died, well, I’m an emotional person. And I just loved this song. I sang it the best that I could. I do well up when I think of John this deeply. And I’ve done my best. We’ve done our best. ⁣

The other good thing is that I really wanted Paul to play on it, and he said yes. Paul came over and he played bass and sings a little bit on this with me. So John’s on it in a way. I’m on it and Paul’s on it. It’s not a publicity stunt. This is just what I wanted. ⁣

And the strings that Jack arranged for this track, if you really listen, they do one line from “Here Comes The Sun.” So in a way, it’s the four of us.” ⠀⁣

And as a little tribute, it’s nice to see Ringo wearing a badge made from the John Lennon USA Postage Stamp on the cover of the album.⠀⁣

While sifting through boxes upon boxes of the original tapes for Yoko Ono, engineer Rob Stevens discovered something truly remarkable that had gone unnoticed all these years. “Early 2016, during the gestation period of this project, I’m in the Lennon archives with my people going through tape boxes that have labeling that’s unclear, misleading, or missing entirely”, says Stevens. “There’s a one-inch eight-track that says nothing more on the ‘Ascot Sound’ label than John Lennon, the date, and the engineer (Phil McDonald), with DEMO on the spine. No indication of what material was on the tape. One delicate transfer to digital later, the “Imagine” demo, subsequently enhanced superbly by Paul Hicks, appears within this comprehensive set. It was true serendipity.”

In the clip below, listen to the never-before-heard home recording of John Lennon playing his very first demo of ‘Imagine.’  The track globally launches Imagine – The Ultimate Collection and is available for streaming and immediate download with all digital album pre-orders.

Watch Keith Richards’ Daughter Theodora Richards Debut New Show w/ Special Guest Sean Lennon

Keith Richards’ daughter, Theodora Richards, also the offspring of model Patti Hansen, was joined by Sean Lennon for her debut show on SiriusXM The Spectrum (Ch. 28) today (08/29/17). A clip of the show can be viewed below.

The show will air live Tuesdays at 1pm (ET), future guests include Peter Wolf and Rolling Stones back-up singer Lisa Fischer.

“I am so excited to be working with SiriusXM on this project,” said Richards. “It’s so fun to be able to play music that we haven’t heard on the radio in a while. The audience and I can learn together, be nostalgic together and groove together.”

Steve Blatter (SVP/GM, Music Programming) commented, “On The Spectrum, our channel where new rock meets classic rock, Theodora’s knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for music, both new and old, will be a noteworthy addition.”
