The Fender Joe Strummer Signature Telecaster – 2022 – The Clash

Joe Strummer (Official):

Check out the new Fender Joe Strummer Signature Telecaster, which pays homage to Joe’s legendary instrument. Feat. Road Worn lacquer-finished Alder body, a mid-60s “C”-shape maple neck & a set of custom-voiced Strummer Tele pickups.

As front man and main songwriter of legendary punk band, The Clash, Joe Strummer created a fiery, passion-filled brand of up-tempo punk-rock that catapulted the band into rock and roll history. Strummer’s rebellious musical sensibilities injected the band’s songs with the lightning-in-a-bottle political urgency of the era.

PURCHASE

To capture the vibe of Joe’s well-worn ’66 model, the Joe Strummer Telecaster® features a Road Worn® lacquer-finished Alder body, a mid-‘60s “C”-shape maple neck with 7.25” radius Rosewood fingerboard and a set of custom-voiced Joe Strummer Telecaster® pickups. Other features include a vintage-style 6-saddle Telecaster® bridge, era-correct 3-ply parchment pickguard, vintage-style tuning machines and a custom neck plate, all featuring Fender’s Road Worn® finish to complete the look.

Vintage-style 6-Saddle Tele Bridge
Custom Joe Strummer ‘60s Single-Coil Tele® Pickups
Road Worn® Vintage-Style Hardware

Joe Strummer’s legendary ‘66 Tele is more than a guitar, it’s the sound of a movement – played throughout Strummer’s career in the 101ers to The Clash, to the Mescaleros and beyond.

Built to withstand heavy destruction, this guitar had battle scars to prove it, made real by Strummer’s dedication to using it every time he played, without fail.

As the story goes, Strummer’s Tele was bought out of an act of goodwill. A friend from South Africa was looking to obtain British citizenship, so he agreed to a marriage at the price of £100. It just so happened that a used Telecaster was available at a local shop for £120.

THE MAKEOVER

This guitar initially started out with a 3-Color Sunburst finish, but as Strummer, Paul Simonen and Mick Jones came together to form The Clash, the aesthetics of the group changed, which brought an all-black paint job to the instrument, in addition to stencil work and several decals.

As The Clash gained more of a worldwide audience on the heels of early albums like Give ’Em Enough Rope and London Calling, the Black began to give way to the Sunburst. Plus, the original three-saddle ashtray bridge was switched out for a six-saddle version and a second string tree was added.

To celebrate Strummer’s legendary contributions to not only the music of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, but also the punk and hardcore we hear today, Fender is releasing the Joe Strummer Signature Telecaster, a faithfully recreated model that captures his rebellious musical sensibilities and injected The Clash’s songs into the political urgency of the era.

Fender Smolder Acoustic Overdrive Guitar Pedal – Setup – Tutorial – Purchase

Fender:  Smolder Overdrive solves the acoustic guitarist’s dilemma of unruly distortion feedback at higher volumes. It smooths out unwanted sonic characteristics, resulting in a natural-sounding overdrive that plays nice with acoustic amps and PA systems. PURCHASE

Scroll through the clips below.

ORIGINAL DESIGN—FENDER TONE
It’s tough to add overdrive to acoustic guitars—not only can it sound un-musical, it can also cause tone-destroying feedback. Designed specifically for use with acoustic instruments, the all-analog Smolder® Acoustic Overdrive elegantly solves these issues with Fender know-how. To soften the bright attack of a piezo pickup we included a Pickup Compensation control that smooths out the highs. The Drive knob controls the amount of distortion, while 3-band EQ and Filter controls let you shape your sound to taste. We even included cabinet simulation to add some flavor when plugged into a full-range acoustic amp or PA.

Designed by our in-house team of experts, the Smolder® Acoustic Overdrive is an all-original Fender circuit. The chassis is crafted from lightweight, durable anodized aluminum, and the Amp Jewel LED gives your pedalboard the classic Fender look. The switchable LED-backlit knobs show your control settings on a dark stage at a glance.

FEATURES
Acoustic distortion pedal
Pickup Compensation control
Drive control
3-band EQ and Filter controls

SPOON: Britt Daniel Fender Telecaster Thinline Signature Guitar

SPOON (Official): The Britt Daniel Telecaster Thinline is now available from Fender. More info @ Fender

Led by the incomparable Britt Daniel, Spoon has blazed new trails in rock and roll for over 25 years and a span of 10 albums – including 2019’s retrospective compilation, Everything Hits at Once – each of which readily sparks debate among diehards as to which is the best.

Whether that fan-favorite is Girls Can Tell (2001), Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (2007) or They Want My Soul (2014), or anything else in between for that matter, the Austin-grown band has always presented an interesting dichotomy.

Each album in their acclaimed catalog sounds different, even if each one is also undoubtedly a Spoon release. It’s a refreshing conundrum to have in the current landscape of ever-changing targets when it comes to popular music. No matter what, you know Spoon will never disappoint.

Daniel is the architect of this formula, and has been for a while, having first picked up a guitar with the main intention of writing songs as a teenager.

I didn’t start playing guitar until I was 15,” Daniel said. “The first thing I played was a little bit of piano, and then I got a bass guitar when I was maybe 13. But I quickly figured out that I couldn’t write on that, and I wanted to write. So the next thing I did was get an electric guitar.

“At some point, I realized there was this thing called a good song. My dad said to me something like, ‘The thing I like about Bob Dylan is that he’s got such sturdy, great songs.’ I thought, ‘Oh, so there’s this thing called a quality song?!’”

From there, Daniel set out crafting his own style – an angular approach to the guitar where he lets his right-hand craft rhythms over which he can fit an infinitely catchy vocal melody. And throughout his career, Daniel’s guitar of choice has largely been a Fender Telecaster.

Fans of Daniel can get their hands on an instrument that has been key to his success, the Britt Daniel Tele Thinline. This artist model takes cues from two different guitars that he configured to meet his standards in creating his signature tone.

It has elements of those two [guitars], plus some mods that I did to those,” he said. “Very small mods, but mods that help with ease of play and to help get my sound a little bit.

“I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t like to switch guitars a lot on stage. I like to keep it simple, where this is the sound that you’re playing with. That’s what you got, and if you have one sound, it better be good.”

Just like the bulletproof discography of Spoon, consider the Britt Daniel Tele Thinline yet another project in which the Texas native came through with the goods. Daniel’s done it his entire career, including this inspiring collaboration with Fender.

I’ve always felt the pressure to deliver,” he said. “I feel like that’s what you have to do. If you’re going to be putting out records, you have to prove yourself every time. You’re only as good as the last record. You have to constantly be evolving, you have to constantly be pushing yourself. Otherwise, what are you doing this for?”
