Richie Sambora to Tom Keifer: “When I walked in that club in Philly, I knew u were a star” – 2023 – Bon Jovi – Cinderella

Richie Sambora:

Hey my brother! How ya doin? When I walked in that club in Philly, I knew u were a star and still are. And a great friend and human being! We’re still killin’ it! Big love man!

In a 2014 interview, Tom Keifer stated that Kiss bass guitarist Gene Simmons first took interest in the band and tried to get them a deal with PolyGram, but they were not interested. After seeing Cinderella perform at the Empire Rock Club in Philadelphia, Jon Bon Jovi talked to his A&R man, Derek Shulman about seeing the group. Shulman was not convinced at first either and wanted to sign the band to a six-month development deal. But after extensive negotiations, he finally signed the band.

Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider: “Cinderella’s Fred Coury was a child prodigy, classical violinist at 7 years old” – Wait…What?

Dee Snider:

Cinderella’s Fred Coury was a child prodigy, classical violinist at 7 years old. Accepted into the Berkeley School of Music…but decided to rock on the drums (amongst the myriad of instruments he plays) instead!

Wikipedia:

At age 5, Fred Coury started taking violin lessons. At age 6 he participated in his first public performance. Between the ages of 7 and 9, he studied at the Beirut Conservatory of Music in Beirut, Lebanon. At age 10, he added the trumpet to his repertoire. Finally, at age 12 he started to play the drums. By the age of 13, he was playing local bars with the band Sunjammer. As a teen, Coury was accepted to Berklee School of Music in Boston for violin.

Coury has played in other bands including London and Chastain and was playing with Ozzy Osbourne in 1985 filling-in for Randy Castillo who had a leg injury, before he joined Cinderella. He got into Cinderella when drummer Eric Singer (KISS, Badlands, Alice Cooper) told him about the gig and encouraged him to audition. Coury sent in a cassette and because, as far as everyone knew, according to Circus magazine, he was the drummer for Ozzy, that may have helped him score an audition.

Coury left Cinderella in 1991 and joined Stephen Pearcy of Ratt to form the band Arcade. He also briefly substituted for Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler in December 1987 when health issues forced Adler off the road. Coury also filled in for Rikki Rockett during Poison’s slot at the Comstock Rock Festival on July 15, 2009, due to the fact that Rockett having had baby the day before, and in 2017 he filled for Night Ranger when his friend Kelly Keagy took a brief leave from tour.

Fred Coury spends most of his time in his Los Angeles recording studio Double Forte Music composing for television and sports. A multi-award-winning composer, he has scored all four seasons of NBC’s hit series ‘The Night Shift’ (TV series), WGN America’s original series Almost Paradise and also scored the opening then for the NBC series ‘The Wall’. He composed and created the original musical score for the 2019 feature film FULL COUNT. An avid hockey fan, Coury combined his love of the sport with his musical skills to create the Goal Song and sonic identity for the Los Angeles Kings hockey team. In 2017, The L.A. Kings series ‘Black & White’, which Coury scores, was nominated and won an Emmy Award. He also provides the sonic identity for the Portland Trail Blazers NBA team, with whom he won a second Emmy award.

Rob Zombie:

Who is the voice of the raven in the Munsters clock? Well, it’s my pal Fred Coury. Yep, bet you didn’t know the drummer from Cinderella is a master impressionist. 🦇🦇🦇🦇 #robzombie #themunsters

David Chastain on ‘Mystery of Illusion’ Album: “We received a demo tape from a then unknown teenager named Fred Coury” – 2022 – Reissued on CD/VINYL/LP

David T. Chastain: When I was putting together CHASTAIN with Mike Varney, along with Leather Leone and Mike Skimmerhorn, the final piece of the puzzle was the drummer. We received a demo tape from a then unknown teenager named Fred Coury and was floored with his chops and energy. He was immediately asked to join the band and play on “Mystery of Illusion” that has just been reissued on Cd and Vinyl on Jolly Roger Records. We then all met out in the San Francisco area for rehearsals and the recording of the album. Fred added a lot of “younger” influences to the sound of the band. I recently found this in my never-ending quest to reduce the archives. Both Fred and I had completely forgotten about it. Obviously, Fred went on to do great things in the music world and still continues to create new music. I have been lucky in having amazing drummers on all of the Chastain albums: Fred, Ken Mary, John Luke Hebert, Dennis Lesh, Larry Howe & Stian Kristoffersen.

Jeff LaBar’s Family Releases Statement Regarding His Passing – 2021

Jeff LaBar’s family releases statement regarding his passing

Jeffrey Philip La Bar of Nashville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at the age of 58 on July 14, 2021. He was born on March 18, 1963 in Darby, Pennsylvania to June and Bob La Bar. Jeff grew up in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, and went to Upper Darby High School.

Inspired by his brother Jack to pick up the guitar, he joined the local rock band Cinderella, who rose to prominence in the late 1980s with a string of platinum-selling albums. The group toured the world and had numerous charting songs and videos on MTV. Cinderella had an exceptionally strong fanbase in Japan, which was particularly special to Jeff as that’s where his mother June was born and raised. He would always take her and their family in Japan to the band’s shows there, a life highlight for both mother and son. As Jeff got older, a love of music shifted to a passion for the culinary arts, with his cooking inspired by June’s Japanese heritage. He would reinterpret dishes that were standards in the La Bar household and add a unique flair.

Following a move to Nashville in 2004, Jeff quickly surrounded himself with a community of dear friends who he loved to host and cook for at his home there. He never forgot his Delco roots though and stayed close with all those he grew up with in the region. While he became a bit of a fan of the Tennessee Titans when he moved to Nashville, Jeff’s number one sports franchises were in his hometown, number one being the Philadelphia Eagles, as he never missed the team’s games and would always text his dad Bob during them. He would always make time to talk to his mom for hours every Sunday on the phone, reminiscing and listening to stories about June’s days growing up in Japan. He planned on moving back to Delco as his parents got older, and his mother was excited to have him return with his cooking.

Jeff inspired many of his friends and family to get into music, notably his son and pride and joy, Sebastian. He was eternally proud of the man and musician his son became and looked forward to working on a music project with him. Sebastian visited his father in Nashville often and loved playing music with Jeff and hearing about adventures from the old days when he was on the road. An animal lover, Jeff rescued cats, spent time taking care of his fish, and adored his cat Loki.

In addition to Sebastian, Jeff is survived by his wife and best friend Debinique, with whom he created an internet radio show ‘Late Night with the La Bars,’ his parents Bob and June, brothers Jack (Alice) and David (Victoria), sister Diane (Jason), sister-in-law Lisa and many nieces and nephews. Jeff was like a second father to his siblings Diane and David growing up. Although he had many admirers, Jeff was an even bigger fan of his family and friends, seeing the absolute best in everyone he met. Rarely was there a picture of Jeff without a smile on his face. Jeff was an incredibly loving human being and will be missed beyond measure. Immediate arrangements are private and a Celebration of Jeff’s Life is being planned for close friends and family.
