Y&T Masters Lost in Universal Fire: ‘Earthshaker,’ ‘Black Tiger,’ ‘Mean Streak,’ ‘In Rock We Trust,’ ‘Open Fire’

Dave Meniketti: “Well everyone, I just received the report from Universal about what Y&T titles were lost in the fire and what remains. Though Universal still has safety copies of many things left in the vaults on various formats, we have lost forever the 1/4″ and 1/2” analog masters to Earthshaker, Black Tiger, Mean Streak, In Rock We Trust, and Open Fire!!!

“That is the bulk of the most important analog masters to lose. These are the MAIN masters from which the original records were made.

“It’s like losing your original painting, while there are photo copies still around. A sad day to reflect back on watching these get recorded to those 2 analog tape formats and listening back to those exact masters as each song was mixed down in the studio. Irreplaceable from an artistic and emotional standpoint.”

Y&T Frontman Responds to Latest Universal Music Fire News/List – The Lost Master Tapes

Dave Meniketti: “Just found out a few minutes ago that Y&T was named as one of many artists who had their master recordings destroyed in the Universal Music fire that happened 11 years ago and just came to everyone’s attention recently.

“We checked with someone at Universal yesterday and she claimed our masters were not burned in the fire. However we’ll absolutely need further clarification and proof of this, as that now appears to be a false claim.

“They received a large insurance payment for the damages and kept it from the public awareness for 11 years! Devastating to so many artists on that list. I know that Universal had been in the process of backing up some of these masters digitally, but there’s no way they did so for every one of these artists.

“Universal Music has ALL of our masters from London Records, A&M, and Geffen. Everything we recorded from 1975 through 1990, including 2″ multi-tracks, 1/4″ and 1/2” analog masters of every release, rough mixes of everything we put to tape, out-takes, unreleased songs ideas, original album artwork, videos, etc.

“If this holds up to be true, it’s a sad day for all associated with these classic Yesterday & Today/Y&T recordings.”

Facebook/Universal Music Group Ink Multi-Year Deal

Facebook just inked a multi-year deal with Universal Music Group (UMG) that will allow Facebook users to share videos featuring music from the label’s massive catalog. In the past, Facebook’s users who uploaded videos that fell under the UMG imprint had them taken down.

No word on when users will be able to share music/videos via Facebook platforms, but word on the street says more music features could be coming soon.
